Gennaro's Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Scotland

I was a regular here but one night the fish was really bad. I took it back the next day and was shocked at my treatment by the staff. Their attitude was terrible. Since then I have never been back. When you're paying over inflated prices for less than mediocre food it's time to go elsewhere which I did. I found a great local chippy where the staff are pleasant and the food is great and costs less. Win Win. ETA In response to the poor reply by Gennaro's...."Snazzy. Who takes a fish back to a chipshop a day later? Did this really happen? " Yes, it really did happen as you very well know. As to "who takes food back to a chip shop a day later?" That's easy...anyone who isn't willing to be fobbed off with sub standard food which you sell. Free advice for you, why don't you practise cooking decent food instead of trying to be smart in your replies to people who complain about the poor quality of your food?

We tried them for the first time on Saturday after our local chip shop has changed how they cook their chips.

Took quite a long time me and another person to be acknowledged, never mind being served. Food took over 10 mins, but vegan sausage could have been the reason Staff rather unenamoured and there's an underlying feeling of hostility, can't imagine where that comes from... Vegan Sausage was delicious. Mac Cheese runny and tasteless. (properly very mild cheese). Fish was overcooked and dry Chip were roasting hot, but we all found them tasteless. Curry sauce had something overpowering the taste, possibly coconut

We are keen to find a really good chip shop, in particular with the chips, but they all seem to be losing that classic chip shop taste.

I appreciate that criticism can be unpleasant, but it is genuinely intended to be constructive. However, looking at the other reviews, I suspect the the owner will come back with some childish yet...

Normally very good food and service, however on this occasion it was very poor. October 2025 I have just had the worst fish & chips for years. Having used this restaurant/ take away for years, I was expecting better food, than what I received. I usually use just eat to order fish and chips from Genaros and normally I rate the food and service 4 or 5 out of 5. As I was short of time, I ordered in person and couldn’t believe how bad the food was, I was given. The fish that I had served was, split in two very small pieces and had been put to the side, while serving the person in front. I couldn’t believe that the server went over and specially selected the discarded piece of fish and stacked the chips on top in an attempt to cover up this sub standard offering.
