Β Β Β Read moreWe (my immediate and extended family) have been going to the Jahangir for over 20 years. We always loved it, and it was a very regular go to for sit-in meals and takeaways.
The past 2 year or so the prices shot up (circa Β£40 for a takeaway for 2) but we were willing to pay this as we enjoyed it, and prices have shot up everywhere.
However, I am sad to say after multiple poor experiences recently we are apt to try somewhere else for our Indian fix.
The latest meal (takeaway for 5) was over Β£90. We waited over 1hr 30mins for delivery which we understood could be because it's fathers day. Once it was delivered, we realised that multiple items were missing. I phoned and was told that we could either be refunded or receive these items on the next delivery. I explained that we had hungry visitors and were missing rice, naan etc so we needed it now. I was told as they were busy there would be a considerable wait (to which I replied this wasn't good enough as we have people waiting to be fed and it was their error). Over an hour later we are still waiting on the missing rice, peshwari naan etc.
The food we did manage to try was very below par. The curries had little taste, there wasn't much chicken in the curries, there was a bone in one of the chicken pieces and the garlic naan had no flavour (the naan breads from here used to be huge and tasted amazing). They seem to have cut the quality across the board yet are still charging high prices. Each one of us commented that the food tasted different - and not for the better.
We'll be trying...
Β Β Β Read moreWe were staying round the corner at the Travelodge for the night and decided to take a walk and find something to eat. Thankfully, we turned left, and after just a minute's walk, we saw the sign. This will do, said the other half, and that was fine with me. We were greeted with a warm and friendly invite into the restaurant, and shown to our table. Immediately you could hear the sound of water running. This I was dubious about at first as it had been raining all day. Then my mind was put at rest. It was a very large fish pond built into the floor, and the running water was from the water fountain in the middle of it. Coupled that with toy carp in it was something we had never seen or heard of before in a restaurant. The sound of running water just added to the ambience of what was already a pleasant looking eatery. We went for the special. This consisted of a starter, a main course, and ice cream. Every little morsel that was laid in front of us was eagerly devoured. The flavours of the suaces were out of this world! The chicken and lamb just melted in your mouth, and as for the nan bread, you just couldn't stop eating it. The sad thing is, we stay up in Aberdeenshire, so it's just too far to make it a regular treat for us. But, should we ever be in Dundee in the future, this will be added to the favourites on the Sat nav. Thank you very much again for a fantastic dining...
