Positives: +Vegan options🥳. +Welcoming atmosphere (decor, lovely background music, staff, and fellow diners). +Staff were presentable and had great people skills. They also told us the proper way of eating the vegan platter - great advice which improved the dining experience 👍. +Presentable restaurant. +Lovely food, we both enjoyed the vegan platter; it was very filling and we liked all the options (the Shiro was our favourite). +Speciality wine went down well (they also offer specialty beer and coffee). +Generous quantities - great value.
-Latest update; had to downgrade the service star rating, it was very slow today at lunchtime.
+Update: on my second visit I did not experience any of the negatives I experienced first time (i.e. the service was quick and efficient, and still friendly. And the gluten-free injera was ready👍) Also the ceremony coffee was great; smooth and powerful.+
Overall, a nice experience; I do recommend visiting and will be back. Tips for fellow diners:
I came here on a Tuesday night while I was staying in Glasgow for a few nights and the whole experience was top notch. I was a bit apprehensive about going in at first because I've never tried the type of food before and being a solo diner, sometimes you can feel like an inconvenience or like you're not welcome; but at Mosob I was made to feel welcome as soon as I stepped foot inside and I'm so glad I did.
All of the staff were pleasant and after explaining to the waitress that it's my first time trying Ethiopian food, she was more than happy to help pick out the right dish for me; I had alicha which was the nicest lamb stew I've ever had (I've been craving it ever since!) and she even demonstrated to me how to eat it with my hands. Pouring the alicha onto injera and then tearing a piece off, using it to scoop up the stew. It was a unique way to eat it and embrace in the culture.
While I was sat at my table I started talking to a young lad who works there called Daniel and I want to give him a special shout out. We must've spoken for about 20 minutes and it was the highlight of my evening. Great food with great conversation. I felt like I was speaking to a long lost friend and he really made me feel like I was where I belonged.
I'll definitely be going back the next time I visit Glasgow and I've already got my next lamb dish...
Read moreI come here often with my partner, and every time we are consistently impressed with the quality of the bountiful vegan options on offer. Particular favourites are the platter, the fit-fit and the potato stew!!
It took us a long time to come across this place, a real hidden gem which has made me question how East African cuisine is not more popular.
We do find that the waiters are very forward regarding the preferred method for eating with injera (tipping all food out of bowls onto the bread) when we explain we don't like to do this. Personally, we prefer not to as we find it makes sharing far more difficult and compromises the structural integrity of the injera. Instead, we scoop with the injera while the dishes remain in the bowls. It may not be the most authentic method and mean no disrespect, but we find it is easier and more enjoyable for us personally.
Other than this small point, we cannot speak more positively of Mosob. The staff, including the head chef, are always very attentive and friendly, stopping by often to check on...
