The Locale — Restaurant in Scotland

I was really disappointed with my experience here after hearing such great reviews. We booked 2 tables for a party of 12 for a special occasion, upon arriving on time for our reservation at 9pm, we were sat at 2 tables with seats on one side, facing the toilets, which was not very sociable. However, the atmosphere seemed pretty good so we were happy to sit anyway! We started to try and order drinks - only 25% of our party managed through the app, whilst others struggled, one member of our party asked the bar staff for assistance to be told they had 'shut off ordering from the app for the next 30 minutes.' I understand that it can get busy/overwhelming and these things happen but I don't understand having just arrived, we were expected to sit for half an hour with no service? No food, no drinks, just facing a wall? We finished the 3 drinks that were able to be ordered, then left promptly. It's a shame that we were given no alternative to using the app and there was no apology. We were a large party, the table had been booked for a couple of weeks and it wasn't the experience I had expected. Our friend whose birthday it was had travelled for the occasion and had specifically requested Locale as she'd been dying to try it but unfortunately, she wasn't even able to get a drink. Quiz is held weekly on Mondays. Good sound system, can hear quizmaster clearly. Fun for casual players. They offer a five pound burger for quizzers which was pretty good quality.

Picture round was themed, but diverse, learned a fair bit.

General Knowledge round was disappointing, a lot of guesswork which is a good leveler but didn't really feel like the knowledge itself was engaging.

There was a challenge round which was Mario Kart, that was pretty unique and a good way to engage the people who probably aren't there as much for the trivia.

The music round was songs played backwards, probably to stop people Shazaming, but most of the songs were too easy so it didn't really set any of the teams apart.

The winning team was on a table of eight or nine people (though only a few of them went for the winner's photo), bit hard if you're a table of two.

Long breaks between the rounds meant that although the quiz was around 2 hours in length it was only four rounds. Bit slow for me but could also work better for large groups out on a social.

Came here tonight after booking a table on the website itself only to find that the website had booked us outside in 1 degree weather at a smoking table with us having absolutely zero confirmation of this when we were booking. We cannot sit outside at a smoking table as we have a 6 month old at home who we don’t want to get ill or have second hand smoke from. What an absolute disgrace. To make things worse, we were told by the waitress that tables were ‘fully booked’ however there was at least a dozen free. My partner had a chef who works here recommend to go, but after that experience we won’t be back. Having to plan somewhere else to go now! Avoid.

Edit: your response is a complete & utter joke. Your manager was messing around at a bar, NOT checking for another table. I’ve sent you a booking confirmation that says NO WHERE that this was an ‘outside’ option. My review is not ‘unfair’ but your response is. How dare you.
