We booked The Scallion for a famly Sunday lunch. When we arrived the staff were welcoming and very attentive to the dog in our party. Two of our party ordered the Korean Fried Chicken burger with kimchi, the rest of us ordered the Sunday roast. The Chicken burgers arrived without the kimchi and when my brother in law asked for some he was given a small scraping. When he went back up to ask for more he was told they had none left but they would take something off the bill (they took £1 off the bill for the two burgers). The roasts were fine. the meat was cooked well but all of the veg was a tad under done, although nothing to complain about. There were a number of none drinkers in our party so rather than split the bill we all decided to pay for what we had, this is where the problems started. When we counted the pints we noticed we had been charged for an extra pint, however when we pointed this out to our server she was told by the manager that we had indeed had the extra pint and we were being charged for it, in actual fact the young man that served us actually brought us an extra pint in one of our rounds which in good faith we said we would probably drink anyway, so just to leave it, meaning in reality we were charged for two extra pints. However, this should not have been an issue, our bill was £212, not an insignificant amount on a Sunday afternoon and any pub manger worth their salt would have recognised this, however after a fair bit of backwards and forwards it became clear that the lady in charge was not for budging and said she had full faith in young Rory and would take his word over her paying customers all day long. She literally called us liars and threatened us with the police when we started to get annoyed. The annoyance was not necessarily over the extra pint it was the sheer lack of customer service. If you have customers in your bar spending over £200, does it make any sense to fall out with those customers over the price of a pint? We all live local to the bar and none of us will return. Whoever owns this bar needs to remind their staff that they work in the SERVICE industry and explain to them exactly what this means as the service we received...
Read moreUnfortunately really disappointed by our experience. I was hoping this could become a new local with it having such a good food and drink menu including lots of vegetarian options and being dog friendly. But sadly it took just far too long for anything to come, the tables were sticky and dirty and the food wasn't great. It took 30-40 mins after ordering food for us to be told there was in fact no soup for starters and within this time our side of onion rings also didn't come ( we had asked for the onion rings to come out as a starter) .Another 30 mins after this we were still waiting for hot dogs , fish and chips and onion rings. The hot dogs were fine when they did come but took well over an hour for them and the fish was mostly batter, tiny amount of fish within the batter and the bread and butter was just a bit of stale cold toast with no butter . The onion rings came another 5-10 mins after the mains were served and were burnt and dry. Really disappointed and we did politely tell our server all of this. Maybe it was just a bad day being a bank holiday but the place wasn't busy to even slightly justify how terrible the food experience was. I wouldn't return unfortunately and I really wanted to like this place. Nice decor and style but unfortunately seems to be style...
Read moreThe smell of disinfectant in the bar was really overwhelming, the furniture in the bar was pretty beaten up, and the food (Vegetarian pizza) was doughy, watery, and didn’t taste very much of anything. The woman who greeted us was pleasant, but I wouldn’t recommend it for food or atmosphere. I’m a little skeptical of the 4+ star reviews.
Also, the response to this review from Team Scallion is pretty laughable. In the few places in which it is actually coherent the jist seems to be, ‘hey, differences of opinion’. In response: 1. If the staff did not smell the very intense odour of disinfectant (side-note, what could you possibly spill in a restaurant that would require that amount of industrial disinfectant?), then the food industry is probably not for them; 2. Pizza should not have a big puddle of water in the centre. I’m glad your pizza has taken off, but mine was objectively dreadful; 3. Your furniture was sticky and the table tops were beaten to bits and that is simply a fact. Given your response, maybe that is in indication of your character; & 4. I am not skeptical of my one star review (I have absolutely no clue what you mean by that). Take responsibility. Your response should have been ‘sorry, we’ll do better’, not a flippant...
