Me and my partner decided to try this place as I hadn't been for over a decade when it was called Jumbo's.
When we walked in there were barely any people in the restaurant for a typical Saturday night. Realising that their priority was most likely their takeaway service. The decor is a little tired and dated but we didn't mind that all if the service and staff are good.
We decided to try the vegetarian menu. We got the set menu which was probably a bad move. The staff were friendly and nice enough. The set menu for two was £19.80pp. Which equated to -1 sharing plate -3 mains 1 egg fried rice.
My biggest issue was the starter of "dim sum dumpling selection" we received only two dumplings of the dumpling selection. At the time I wish I'd have said something. The food was nice though but I was just especially disappointed with the starter. We were also only given a spoon and fork and no chopsticks on the table. I know I could've asked for these.
Again, the mains were okay. Egg fried rice good, aubergine fried nest good. But the honey and lemon "chicken" looked and smelled awful. I tried it and it was passable but really not a nice texture or smell.
For what we paid and what we got, I don't think the set menu is good value for money.
Another bug bare of mine is that it's cash only. It's now required by law in some countries to have card payment available. So my partner had to get cash out. When he went to pay he wasn't given his correct change. He counted and checked the bill, then literally just said "excuse me..." And before he could finish his sentence the lady serving then gave him the correct amount, as she had the money in her hand but hadn't given it to him straight away?
I and my partner did not feel 💯 after eating here, but it is what it is. Maybe if we went back we'd just pick direct rather than...
Read moreMother went out for a meal around 2 weeks ago. When it came to pay she paid with card. The person took her card and entered the details and asked my mum for her pin. The lady then said it had declined. She then tried it again and said it had declined again. She was just about to try again when my mum stopped her and said she would pay with cash. My mum then asked for the receipt to prove the last 2 transactions had voided and the woman said unfortunately it had no receipt roll in the card card machine so she couldn't give her a receipt. When my mum a few days later looked at her card statement it showed 2 transactions from the Chinese kitchen. A meal that should have been £45 had now cost her £135. She rang the restaurant and told them what had happened and they said as long as she brought proof they would refund her. When she give the proof last week the lady stated that she couldn't do the refund because her boss was on business. This was a week ago and we still haven't heard anything. Please be careful I think they are scamming people and telling people that the card had declined...
Read moreAmazing Chinese food! Would highly recommend! Better than my local Chinese takeaway! They use very little MSG but enough to enhance the flavor and the msg itself has a nice distinct flavour if you use a little , as my local drowns it in msg (monosodium glutamate) and looses the flavour! As it's then too salty and makes you thirsty , But I could tell they used a little bit of it as I didn't feel as thirsty and oh my the flavours were roody amazing! I had s&s pork, and the spring rolls, both lovely and flavoursome! Would highly recommend! Well worth your money, the restaurant has a nice old cafeteria feel to it where the tables and chairs were fixed and it was one whole unit, would defo come again when In Sheffield! It's very rare I eat Chinese, but I always like...
