Edit: It has been quite a few years ago that I had my bad experiences. Things have definitely improved and it's a nice place to get some kbbq again. Staff are a lot nicer (maybe better trained) and the quality of the marinated meet has improved too. I'm leaving my original review as it was applicable at one time, but wanted to update with my latest experience.
Original post 2016: I've been eating here for 4 years throughout my university life. Initially their barbecue food quality was really good, but it has drastically fallen over the years, as well as their quality of service. With our latest visit, it might be our last too. I understand when the place is busy, staff are also busy that is understandable and I have usually no problem being patient with waiters, but what was really annoying was when our table was completely ignored, while the table next to us seemed to know the staff, got served a lot faster, got all of their side complimentary dishes and the waiters seemed to constantly be near them and take their wishes. We had to wait 30 min before they would respond to us calling them to make our first order. Then we had to request twice for the water we ordered and never got our side dishes, which we should have gotten the moment we made our order. The soy sauce dish had barely anything poured in and had to request them re-fill it, which they again barely poured anything in it, considering this one little soy sauce is to be shared between a couple of people. When the bbq meat arrive, it was nothing like the marinated meat I used to have (considering I order this same dish every time I come and I know how it used to taste and be). It was not marinated at all. The staff looked irritated every time we tried calling them, which is unreasonable considering they were more than happy to serve the table next to us. Overall, their meat quality has fallen, their staff attitude is poor, their service is poor and they have become even more stingy when it came to the soy sauce. This is my opinion based on the experience I've had from the last few months visiting this place. I am very disappointed as this was one of my favourite places to...
Read moreIn a recent year Korean BBQ became quite a trend. Sheffield ginseng Korean BBQ is tapping in to this trend basing its restaurant in a middle of a busy restaurant estate. It succeeds to bring people in and give a lot of Loren options for a food. Like any Asian food place there is plenty to choose from - soups, starters, rice and noodle dishes, hot pots (one pot dishes) and, of course, BBQ meat which you can grill yourself. It achieves a goal to bring table BBQs to the masses but does it in its own way. This way is of a giving you plenty of options of mediocre quality meats and services. It has some decorations on the walls but it also has a pile of electronics on the side of the stairs. Wire from the grill is right under your foot and can get you tangled if unnoticed. Food is good, more specifically dumplings are great but other set menu selection is simple. Main dish is a battered chicken/pork with sauce and BBQ meats are just raw meats with which you get 1 kind of seasoning and one sauce (soy) limiting what our can make out of it. While my personal experience was positive I wish it was done better. I have also not got an egg fried rice I have had in the set but I was not aware of it until it got too late. Definitely worth a try, but maybe in some slightly...
Read moreThis was a let-down overall. Once we got used to the 4 socket 13 Amp domestic power extension traipsed across the floor (beneath our feet) that was being used to power both our and the adjacent table's electric “barbecue” grills... The cooked dishes were okay, but nothing special. The raw meat to be barbecued at the table was very wet, like it had been frozen and thawed, rather than freshly prepared. (They were cheap cuts.) Service was slow and inattentive, as both waitresses, while friendly, seemed occupied by other tasks and one of them had as much English skills as I have Korean (which, it turns out, is not enough to enquire about the food). Half way through the meal, out of our sight, some of the kitchen staff decided to have a full-blown argument, possibly a fight, shouting at the top of their lungs, disrupting the service and making us feel very uncomfortable. Nobody front of house dared intervene, saying, “They talking men stuff, I staying away!” The icing on the cake came as we eventually found a waitress and asked for a second drink, our glasses having been dry for a good half-hour, only to be told “No more drink. Bar closed. You go soon!” Charming... I wouldn't bother...
