My partner and I came all the way from Manchester to try the Yakiniku at this place and was sadly quite disappointed.
The restaurant did have a 50% off the ala carte menu, so it could be the reason why the service and quality didn't live up to it's perhaps usual standards? I cannot say as this was my first and last visit there.
We had a booking for 5pm. It was relatively quiet when we arrived and I'd say still quiet when we left.
We got our drinks fairly fast, but for some reason the two meat that we ordered came before anything else? It came before the charcoal, before the appetizers and before the rice.
When the charcoal was getting sorted, the waiter used a pair of scissors which were at our table to unhinge the old bucket of charcoal, then placed the scissors back at our table.. we had to ask for new scissors when we needed to cut the meat.
We waited a good while for our miso soup, takoyaki and rice to be brought out and when it did, the rice felt hard? like it had been sat in the rice cooker for a tad too long, and the takoyaki was barely hot, when really takoyaki would usually be steaming and too hot to be eaten when served.
The meat was disappointing. The harami was cut at weird angles? almost like a triangle, so it didn't grill well and the karubi was mostly bone and fat - please see picture below for reference.
I know you have left feedback on other negative reviews that you think customers should say something while they are there. However, I am against food waste, so I wasn't going to send this back to be binned and ask for a new lot. We ate everything which was served, but please don't think that meant we thought the quality was top notch.
Lastly, the last thing we ordered on the day was Ox tail and beef belly. We were given the wrong meat - another portion of short rib instead of Ox tail. This was quickly rectified though, so no real issues here but thought I'd mention it.
It really is such a shame, as I am a big fan of Japanese yakiniku. I hope you can take on the feedback I have left today and try and improve on the things I...
Read moreThe food at Guyshi is pretty passable if it's available and the staff bother to attend to your table.
Firstly after just sitting down we were pestered twice despite saying we were waiting for a friend, then when our friend arrived we ordered drinks (some of which weren't avaliable) but we were waiting 20-30 minutes to even order food (some of which also wasn't avalible).
We then received all of our appetisers bar one. I'm used to service in Japanese restaurants where the food comes out as it is made, however getting all of our appetisers apart from one was just odd.
While that was happening we also ordered another round of drinks that never arrived we'd pretty much finished the meal by the time we were asked again about drinks. At least they weren't on the bill, just completely forgotten about.
We ordered some bbq and also some donburi, but the bbq came first and donburi some time after that which meant while we were eating our friend that didn't order bbq was sat for 20 minutes without anything (and no drink). We would have preferred for everything to come out at once.
Also for what is, I thought, a pretty new establishment it already looks run down inside. Our booth was visibly worn with the seats suffering from that cracking you get on cheap PU leather over foam after years of usage. I noticed the light panel under the teppenyaki bar opposite was broken too. Maybe the spent all the money on the front?
I wouldn't go back just based on the service, a shame because the charcoal bbq was really good the buffet would be nice, but I wouldn't expect to get my moneys worth out of it with the...
Read moreHaving worked at a number of restaurants around the world and visited hundreds for a good eating and dining experience, I really wanted to enjoy my visit here at Guyshi! I liked the concept and thought it would be a good addition to the Sheffield offering. Unfortunately I was completely disappointed and dissatisfied. Initially, on entry the 'reception desk' was unmanned and we had to search inside for a member of staff to assist us with our table booking. Once seated, the waitress 'tried' to explain the menu to us, with a poor grasp of the English language. Already we had become dis-heartened, just 5 minutes in. The menu was practically unreadable due to the quality of light on the table, unclear, overly priced and poor selections of Japanese food options. Poorly 'marinated' Pork belly (basically bacon from a packet with a smudge of sauce/marinade on top). The Squid was like rubber, with zero marinade. Both options stuck to the BBQ grill in the middle of the table, due to lack of effective marinade or pre-oiled grills, so when turning for cooking or to take off to eat half of the portion was stuck to the grill and left to burn away. Having been disappointed by our experience so far we decided not to order anymore. Asked for our bill and on the 3rd time of receiving it due to it being incorrectly produced with items we had not ordered or eaten, they finally got it right... The staff and service were just as disappointing as the food. Such a shame as I had thought 'this will be a good restaurant for Sheffield on the popular West Street. Will not be returning and can't see it being open for much...
