The Nursery Inn — Restaurant in Stockport

Used to be a fantastic pub, seems a few of the new bar staff let this place down including a member of staff which I have seen on another review. Did an order for 6 drinks which came to £25, I asked if we could be sorted out with some picky bits of food to keep us going, said I would be happy to spend around £60, told me they put some bits together and trusted what they would give us. Asked that if as part of that £60 they could throw in a plate of chips, they said no got really snotty about it, and another member of staff came charging over and spoke to me like something he picked of his shoe, when the food came, there was about 8 tiny chicken goujons, 6 spicy wings a few children’s type chicken nuggets, some Dorito style crisp with some melted cheese which again must have only had about 6 crisp in and a tiny cup of chips. Great local pub. Good beer and friendly service. The bowling green at the back is also a great asset and the outside seating area, a real sun trap in the summer. After a few of changes of management, the place did go downhill for a few years and was starting to resemble a "suburban Wetherspoons". However, the recently appointed landlord, Paul is excellent, the bar staff are very good and always provide great service with a smile and they are an absolute credit to their profession. Paul is also a very good host and good at his job, as are Matt, Sarah and Camellia behind the bar, to name just some. There are also regular quiz nights on a Thursday and music or DJ on some weekends. The previous husband and wife in charge with their miserable faces have thankfully now retired and will definitely not be missed. We had our daughter’s 18th birthday party in the function room upstairs on Tuesday 18/2. I can’t praise the Nursery and particularly the staff enough. The room was perfect, perfect size with it’s own bar, and with tables prepared by the lovely lady ( really sorry we didn’t get your name) who was there on the day in the afternoon and the evening to help us set up the balloons we brought and the music. Also thanks to the resident dj who loaned the disco lights which completed a great atmosphere for our party. Special thanks to all the staff who helped us, particularly the lady who helped set up and the lovely lady working the bar on the night. Would highly recommend the function room but also the pub, great place, a hidden gem....
