Disappointing Visit – Won’t Be Returning
Popped into Tiamos in Stockport on a wet, windy day with my 9-month-old daughter, mainly to escape the rain and grab some breakfast. Initially, things seemed okay – the girl serving us was friendly and polite, and the food was actually not bad at all. Good portions, cheap and cheerful – just what you'd expect for a casual breakfast.
Unfortunately, everything else was a letdown.
The atmosphere was flat and uninviting. The high chair they gave me for my daughter was filthy – even the server commented on how dirty it was, yet all she did was offer to remove the tray. No offer to clean it or replace it. Really disappointing considering how basic hygiene should be, especially for babies.
They use a QR code menu, but you still have to order with the server and can’t pay through your phone – making the whole system feel a bit pointless.
Worse still, just after we got our food, two elderly regulars came in. The server clearly knew them well – as she knew his regular order was a cappuccino before he even ordered. They sat outside right by the wide-open front windows, which are more like doors and lit up strong-smelling pipe tobacco. The smoke poured straight into the café, directly towards my daughter in her already grimy chair. I could see the smoke drifting in, and yet the staff said or did absolutely nothing. In 2025, with all the research around secondhand smoke, I found this completely unacceptable – especially in a place serving food and children.
I lost my appetite and rushed to finish my daughter’s meal so we could leave as quickly as possible. The final insult? A £19 bill for the privilege.
I remember when this café was lovely years ago. Sadly, it’s now somewhere I wouldn’t recommend to anyone – especially parents....
Read moreRewriting my previous review after my visit today. I was really disappointed, as this is the cafe I always go to when I'm in Stockport for breakfast/dinner, but today will definitely be my last visit. Whilst the food is still lovely, the prices have gone ridiculous!! It cost over £23 for a panini, a bacon butty and 2 coffees, which to me is far too expensive (also a note on the menu that they automatically add 15% service charge!) They require you to now scan a QR code for the menu (you can still get a paper menu, but none of the prices on it are correct), I'd rather not have to scan for a menu. I asked for a large latte and the other drink was a regular Americano, both turned up the same size, which I wouldn't class as a large drink. When I queried it I was told that was the large..... I'm sure their large drinks used to be much bigger, the size given would be a regular elsewhere. The icing on the cake though was when we asked for cream instead of milk with the Americano and were charged 20p for it, that's never happened before...... Would they have charged us for milk? As much as I've always loved this place I certainly will not be returning at those prices......possibly that's why we were the only...
Read moreAwful. Bought some take away tapas, at what looked like a small family run business selling authentic Mediterranean food. All we got was a very small salad, no dressing olive oil etc on it and 3 very small plastic pots of tapas and a couple of slices of baguette. It was advertised for £6.95. We got charged £7.50 for it too. When we took it back to complain about the size, we were told "well it says tapas". We've had a few tapas in our life including in Spain and Italy but never had any as miniscule as that. The money was only returned to us after insisting that they can only charge what is advertised. We still hoped to enjoy the food but it was quite underwhelming. So no surprise we won't be going back. Very...
