+2 1 RESERVE A TABLE Northern Lights 1 review Dine in | Dinner We have eaten here now for 2 nights due to staying in the premier inn. Place is very clean and tidy, all staff are presented very well, well mannered and polite. First night we were met at the door by Chris who took our details. I asked for a quiet area if possible due to my sons needs. Chris checked rechecked then said all tables were unfortunately where it was busy, as it was fully booked. He then said he would open up a table which doesn't get used due to its placing. He showed us to it and it was perfect for us. He left us and we were greeted by nikki h who we have had before and she was brilliant, very polite, thoughtful and caring towards us as a family, took our orders quickly asked us if we needed anything else and checked on us regularly. Tonight we were greeted by another man ( I did not catch his name) he said the table we had last night wouldn't be available as no staff in rhat area so we were shown to the quietest area he could get us to. We sat down and when the lady came to take our order (emma) she noticed my son was getting upset even with headphones and iPad. She asked if we wanted to sit at a different table which she swiftly took us too which was just off the main area and again brilliant for us. Emma took our orders , again very polite, thoughtful and caring towards us all.
Food was beautiful, cooked and served exactly how we asked for it, even my sons quirky ways were catered for, nothing at all was a problem for the staff. Extremely helpful and went above and beyond to help us during our meals.
We look forward to returning again soon ☺️ Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Atmosphere: 5/5

Read moreI don't like to leave low star reviews but on this case I want to share an honest review. So we parked easily by the window with lots of parking spaces available. We got greeted by the door by a polite lady called Amy Jane. She took us to a table where there were a few families having a meal. Around 15 mins later a women came and took our drinks order, asked if we were ready to order food yet my wife replied " erm , yes i think so" mid point in my wife saying this the lady turned and walked away saying "ill give you more time" this was at 2:20pm. EVERY TIME that lady walked passed us we were trying to get her attention to which it seemed as though she was deliberately trying to avoid us. We heard someone else say to their child "they don't have pizza or nachos" both of which my eldest child wanted. So we got her to compromise on something different. It got to 2:55 pm when I'd had enough, my wife told me not to get angry and please wait a bit longer, I said she has until 3pm then we are gone. At 2:58pm she came back to us. To be fair she did apologise and told us she forgot about us but thats not exactly good service now is it? When our food came it was mediocre at best. I'm not fussy, when I was younger I worked in a similar environment so I understand the pressures and how negative reviews can affect business so usually let things go. The lady who served us was clearly sorry and was trying her best to make us feel better. I like a mixed grill and have had a countless amount of them at countless venues across the country and I have to say this was the 1st one I have not finished the meat. The sausage was really spicy taking the flavour away from other bits, the portions were very small and the ribs were so over cooked I couldn't even tell the difference between meat and bone. The corn on the cob were bone dry as if they were from the day before. All along this experience, there were various members of staff all walking past almost stomping, sighing and huffing and puffing. I'm not sure if the management is giving them hell but its not the customers fault and surely these staff would be relying on tips to boost their wages (as was i when I worked in a similar industry) the way they acted (with he acception of Amy Jane) was as if they didn't want to be there and couldn't give a stuff whether we were here or not! To make things worse on the way out as we got back in the car we saw the chef (if he can be called that) outside the back smoking in view of us in his whites which were filthy.
It cost us £65 for a mediocre meal with shocking customer service from the majority of miserable staff, im afraid we won't be returning.
We may have gone on a "bad day" and I have no doubt others would have had a better experience on the good days so make the judgement yourself. I am merely stating my experience as I feel reviews should be honest or else...
Read moreWell, I won’t be going to a Beefeater again.
Hopefully Phil Birbeck will have a moment to review the growing list of negative reviews being left. While I appreciate Covid has had dire effect on the hospitality industry, you are not going to get people coming to support your restaurants when the quality of food and service is so poor. The result of which adds to Whitbred needing to axe 1500 job from the beefeater chains alone.
Service started well, covid strategy seems pretty good. Order for first set of drinks after being seated was fairly swift. Ordered a traditional chargrilled gammon steak, and after a slightly delayed wait, out it came.
Other than the picture, the best way I could describe the Gammon would involve inappropriate language that google would block. I would have been more full from eating the paper menu I ordered from. The gammon was thin and I very much doubt was the 10oz weight advertised prior to cooking. There was also no succulence to it whatsoever, 20 Jacobs crackers shoved in my mouth would contain more moisture!!
I proceeded to complain, and fair to the waiter, he exchanged it no issues and I had a new attempt within around 4 - 5 minutes. The Gammon was pretty much as thin as the first, albeit I didn’t need a glass of water due to dryness after every mouth full. To save ruining a night out with my good lady, I decided to laugh it off and eat it.
In between the exchange of meal, we also ordered another round of drinks. On top of the time it took to finish my appalling dinner, another 30 minutes went by and not a sign of our drinks, nor a waiter / waitress to take a dessert order.
At this point we decided that whitbred deserved no more of our a cash, paid the bill for what we had and left.
Wasted evening, awful food, and poor service.
Might be time to review your choice of top level SCM and Service Management
Ironically, Simon Leigh (SCM) once said “solely focusing on cutting costs is the law of diminishing returns”. A very true statement, but clearly not applied it to the quality...
