High Street Café — Restaurant in Tendring

Today’s visit was such a shame because of the staff,the food I can’t fault but the owner of the cafe really needs a rethink on the front of house staff they have working here,the cafe and food is great but the FOH staff they have working here really let it down.if you are going to hire younger inexperienced staff they should at least be trained properly,no apologies for forgotten food or an hour and a half wait,honestly such a shame for usually a great cafe,the waitresses that used to work here were so friendly and attentive.If the cafe was busier I would be a bit more understanding but there was no more then three tables in there at the time and the only excuse that was used the whole time when questioned was ‘sorry we’re busy’ before the waitresses would disappear out back leaving the cafe in a mess.me and my partner ordered two breakfasts a sausage for our dog and some fried bread,we came in at 11 was left with dirty plates on our table for over half an hour while we waited for one of the two girls to take our order ,plates were cleared when asked but table never got wiped leaving sauce all over the table that we had to clear up ourselves,bare in mind the whole time we were in the cafe there was no more then 3 tables waiting,two other tables got up and left while we were there as they had both been waiting over an hour for food,no apology from either of the two girls working.another asking about how much longer it would be the family sat behind us order was completely wrong,they were fed up and told them they would just keep the food when it finally arrived,again no sign of an apology from the staff,the food that they did receive they should not of been charged for.And then finally our food arrived after nearly an hour and a half of waiting,no fried bread or no sausage in sight,I asked for the items that had clearly been forgotten and the waitresses reply was ‘sorry we’ve been busy’ no offer to go in the kitchen and get it,no apology she just went to chat to the other girl behind the counter leaving a cafe full of very unhappy customers.They also left a bag of food and a coffee on the side before deciding after half an hour when it was stone cold to it round to a shop next door.A elderly gentleman sat next to us that we see in there often had paid for his food but just wanted another coffee the girl has dropped the card machine and couldn’t get it working the elderly man only had a card to pay for his coffee and the girl offered nothing then the words ‘sorry’ when he tried to pay when the elderly man went all out to the cash point and back to pay for his one coffee and gave her the money she said nothing other then the words bye,they should not be working with the public.I didn’t say anything at the time as this sort of issue isn’t to be blamed on them it’s to be blamed on the people that have for some reason decided to leave them in charge.they are completely and utterly incompetent with zero social skills,at lot of regular customers have been lost today and I’m sure it will only carry on if the staffing issue isn’t sorted out asap.with good service,a smile and an excuse other then ‘we’re busy’ customers might be more understanding honestly can’t believe the owners leave their business to be run by the staff they do,they are completely unemployable and quite frankly rude,everyone was fed up and most just told them to forget the food and left ,half the day was gone by the time we got out,we should have done what everyone else did and leave after an hours wait.from someone that has owned and worked in hospitality establishments all my life it was honestly painful to watch I felt like doing the job myself.please take this as constructive criticism and either get some experienced staff or do some very intense training with current FOH staff and teach them some basic...

The staff were very rude to us. The waiter walked off to take an order from another table when we had not finished ordering. There is direct line of sight to the kitchen where I could see the staff cutting up salad items for burgers and sandwiches, they were eating the left of pieces of salad. They were using their hands to touch the food, and then put the food in their mouth and touch food again. This is disgusting and violates all food safety practices that the employees should be following.

The food they served was very cold, even though the bacon was half burnt to a crisp. While serving the food to us, she was eating food herself.

Lucky for the establishment, google reviews do not allow videos but I have attached a screenshot of the woman sucking food off her thumb from the video. She was caught multiple times eating food from the counter when preparing food.

When carrying out a plate with one sausage they held the saussage for the entire duration of the walk with their bare hands. How can you hold someone's food and think this is acceptable? This is honestly disgusting!

The selection of drinks was terrible and the kids fruit shoots were aldi froot shoots but they charged high prices for them. If they are going to charge these prices then provide the equivalent product and not a cheaper alternative. This is a very 'bait and switch' tactic which is very shady.

When we mentioned this to the staff they got very rude. They barged past an elderly lady and when she was questions she tried to deny it. Ah she was annoyed with us for the service that we were given
