Walton Tavern — Restaurant in Tendring

My husband and I visited this afternoon. Our food took over 45 minutes to arrive despite it being very quiet. I ordered from the specials board the Pan Fried Salmon served on a 'bed of crispy vegetable noodles', I thought that this would be spiralized vegetable noodles, but when it eventually arrived, the fish was on a bed of soggy egg noodles which were thoroughly overcooked. The salmon, which I asked for rare, was well cooked; after one bite of the noodles I took the dish back to the waitress as it was not as advertised on the board and was not pleasant to eat. I told her that I was happy with the fish but could I perhaps have some tempura vegetables (which was in their starter menu) in place of the noodles. She took my plate and after 5 minutes came back to say that the salmon came with noodles and I couldn't change it. I asked Joan, the landlady, for a refund as I had not eaten any of my meal but was told no as there was nothing wrong with the food. Went In for Sunday roast 5 adults 2 children, was very late afternoon so was not expecting roast still available. They had all options still, half had chicken and the others had beef and chicken nuggets and fries for one of the children. The portions were enormous with loads of vegetables Yorkshire puds and stuffing, a proper Sunday roast. The staff were so friendly and helpful nothing seemed too much trouble, extra Yorkshire for one of the children ( there his favourite) no problem. The desserts were also very good, served with ice cream or custard, the waitress saw one of the children tasting their mums custard so went and got him a bowl of custard of his own. Went here for roast with family, all the food was inferior budget, the portion was like rations so small, 1 roast consisted of, 1/3 of a chicken breast, cup of peas, cup of sweetcorn, 6 slices of carrot, 1 potatoe cut into small pieces, one budget value Yorkshire and a frozen stuffing ball. We was all finished our dinner in approximately 4 minutes it was that small. I think I could have bought all the ingredients at Lidl for less than £5 total for all 4 meals!
