NāMAKA — Restaurant in Thanet

After several years great food drink and service at Namaka, an epic fail on Sunday. Ordered an iced coffee and nachos and was told it’s a 25 min wait. Fair enough. 45 mins later still nothing. I enquire and am told there is no record of my order on the system! Although I remember the girl writing down my order on the little note pad. And I was given a little bleeper disk with 14 written on it that I was sitting by like a muppet for 45 mins in vane as everyone else made new orders and was receiving them. How can there be no record of my order if I had been issued a bleeper with a number on it? It’s confusing, but as an autistic person I am used to being on the receiving end of such ‘service errors’ way more regularly than chance alone would suggest. I’m not claiming here that there was any deliberate removal of my order by the staff, as I have no proof of this in this case, but have noticed generally throughout the service industries that if someone presents as having slight communication difficulties or appears rather odd, there is a higher chance of the servers ‘losing or misplacing’ their order ‘by accident’ as a result. I can’t prove a link in this case, but it does happen exponentially more regularly with me as an autistic person, than average chance statistics would suggest. I’m sadly used to being treated like this by service providers. And also sick and tired of it. As I really did not want to explain the mistreatment I feel regularly as an autistic person yet again, I walked off. My trust in Namaka as an autistic person is over for the reasons outlined above. And that’s £13 down the drain.

addition following your response: that it’s never happenned before is something I hear a lot. Also, you miss my point - whether people know I am autistic or not doesn’t matter - it’s when someone presents as being a bit strange or weird, my general is experience is that the server or servers have a higher chance of accidentally losing their order or ticket....

Incredibly relaxing venue, the music is subtle and they have a projection on the walls really cultivating a lovely environment

The food was delicious I cannot recommend the banana and chocolate loaf more highly, also thoroughly enjoyed the nula option for yoghurt

I made an order through Deliveroo and it was honestly the best thing I’ve ever ordered from anywhere ever!

I ordered the new “Mana Açai Bowl” which was so insanely good. Generous portion size and toppings - so many places are stingy with toppings but not NāMAKA! I hope this new item becomes part of the permanent menu.

10/10 recommend and will absolutely be getting again. Thank you NāMAKA and please keep doing what...
