Thai Orchid — Restaurant in Thanet

I have walked past this restaurant in November and February, it has been closed and I have been dying to try it. Finally last week, my wish was granted. Early morning on my way to get coffee, the owner was outside, he said to return later around 8 and there would be room outside if not inside.

We returned, (no room outside) so we sat indoors, then the owner SPECIALLY for JUST US made room outside. It was so sweet of him. (I think he saw we were a bit disappointed but we really did not expect this as he was extremely busy when we arrived). This was a very personalised service which was really appreciated.

I had the Penang curry, a Singha beer and a French coffee to finish. The food was absolutely sensational.

I wanted to eat there today, lovely warm Tuesday evening, and sit outside. I was looking forward to a nice curry. The owner said he would lose to much money if there is only one person on a table for 4 outside. And there were only tables for 4. Fair enough. So i sat down inside in a completely empty restaurant. I made the mistake to choose not the tiny table next to the entrance door where there is constant traffic, but a different table, unfortunately again a table for 4. Again the guy came over and said i can‘t sit there neither. So i gave up and left. A shame, i always had a good meal there, but with a group of people. It seem that when you are on your own, you are less welcome, because you don‘t bring so much money. i won‘t come back, but the owner made it clear that he does not care that i was not happy about...

AMAZING food, lovely small town atmosphere and a very respectable drink selection. Enormous portions!

People will say hello as they walk past, the view looks like the south of France and music can be heard from the seafront on a Saturday night.

We came as a party of two dogs, a vegan and two very picky omnivores, and were all catered for brilliantly. There's as much vegan food as many vegan restaurants have, and all the food is both healthy and reasonably priced.

Allergy information is in the menu, and as the food is made fresh they will be able to tailor it to your requirements.

Dogs must stay outside, but there is a sturdy glass canopy in the event of rain. They are very dog friendly, however, and even brought us dog water before menus.
