Gallinis was a lovely experience, unfortunately we didn't manage to get a window seat but what a beautiful view it was of the marina, the staff was all happy and smiling and very informative when asked about certain meals... we both had a pint of poretti which was sooo refreshing and light, me and my partner shared the tempura tiger prawns starter, they was absolutely delicious with a chilli and lime sauce, the only thing was it only came with 4 prawns, 2 large and 2 small, I think for £9 it could have had 6 large prawns which would have made it better value for money, and could probably avoid putting a mound of salad on the plate, of all dishes this one probably looked the most dated when it came to presentation, that aside the tiger prawns were exquisite. For the mains my partner had the Manzo which was beef rolled up and stuffed with herbs and parmasan, it came with a tomato based sauce and potatoes, the beef was cooked to perfection, almost felt like it was melting in your mouth, I don't think you'd get beef like that anywhere else in Swansea, the potatoes was crispy on the outside but so soft and fluffy inside, again perfectly cooked, I personally would advise to order a side of the homebade bread to help mop up the sauce, although I was surprised we wasn't given some when we sat down, other Italians in Swansea generally give you a small basket of Homemade bread before you order, I had the pasta with chicken, mushroom and spinach and again the pasta was cooked perfectly with the right amount of creamy sauce without it becoming heavy and stodgy, a very well executed dish, Gallinis is a restaurant that is definately going to be seeing our...
Read moreWent to Gallinis with a few colleagues for dinner. The staff struggled to answer my questions about dietary requirements on the phone leading up to the booking so i tried to make it easier for them by going for the most basic dish (tomato sauce and vegetables with spaghetti). I ordered garlic bread with cheese which was greasy and I only ate one slice. The pasta dish was gorgeous.
The massive downfall is they charged me for their set menu - I didn't get a starter or a main from it. I ordered garlic bread with cheese priced at £4.95. I was charged £27.95 meaning i paid a whopping £23 for tomato pasta. I queried this at the table and was met with "it's Christmas it's a set menu". Not if you look at the menu you will see the garlic breads are a side.
This also happened to some of my other colleagues who had basic food (eg pesto pasta) yet other colleagues who had the manzo and lamb shanks were charged less?
I have had the pleasure of eating in Michelin star restaurants and even their basic pasta dishes have been priced considerably less than Gallinis.
My colleagues and I went to a couple of other places following Gallinis and they were all absolutely bunged with people. Gallinis had more staff than tables - coincidence? I think not.
It's disgusting that Gallinis are essentially ripping people off especially those who are trying to support local businesses this time of year. It's a shame because I enjoyed my pasta but I know myself and other colleagues will not be revisiting Gallinis because of their attitudes at the table when paying and the blatant money grabbing they demonstrated....
Read moreWell where will I start. We are from Nottinghamshire and 1st visit to Swansea, this is our last night and we have been to various restaurants this week. We wanted to try an Italian restaurant and Gallinis was pretty close to the hotel we were staying at I use the phrase "restaurant" very loosely as it was more like a cafe. There was no ambience, the manager/owner? was so disinterested that he couldn't even be bothered to speak to us, the service was rushed, food bland and whoever the chef is wants a real good kick up the backside because it was boring. We have been to lots of Italian restaurants and they are generally full on flavour, very saucey and high on garlic...the food here was the total opposite. Half way through our meal at around 8pm they decided to rearrange the tables and seating..scraping chairs and tables straight behind us...omg where is the service in this so called restaurant? If they would have been bothered enough to ask how the food was...I would have said all of this to their face but guess what...not interested. On the positive side the prosecco was nice and the marina view was good...everything else sorry but I have had more flavour from the...
