This used to be my go-to pub in Swansea for a quiet drink before a meal in a nice restaurant. No longer. The place is completely disorganised. They failed to take my wife's drinks order when she came to join me. Ten minutes later, she tried to get their attention, and the landlord said he would send someone over. Five minutes after that, I went to try to seek their attention. This succeeded in producing an aggressive and rude young male member of bar staff, who, far from apologising for the delay, insisted that I should be sorry that he was allegedly busy (despite tables of youths having no such problems). The rude barman then called me "young man" despite his being at least a decade younger than me. Eventually, one of the decent barmaids (whom I pity for having to work with such chauvinist individuals) brought my wife a drink. I politely asked to speak to the landlord about the other member of staff's unacceptable attitude. The landlord failed to come over and we decided to just leave. Utterly shoddy service from what used to be a fantastic pub. The landlord is completely out of his depth, and at least one member of staff has not been trained properly in basic customer service. Next time we'll go to Wetherspoons, who at least offer their staff...
Read moreVisited on Wednesday 1st March as a change from our usual venues, ordered sirloin steak and rib eye steak. Worst meal I've had in a long time. My sirloin was too tough to eat and the chips were mostly the the small bits (the dregs of the chip pan).the rest were hard and uncooked. Most of my meal was left on my plate, the other steak was not as bad but eaten because we were hungry and we had paid quite a lot for. (£12-£13 each). When I complained I was given a "sorry we don't usually have complaints". As an after thought I should have asked for my money back but I don't even like having to complain. It's back to potter's wheel in future, 2 sirloin and a bottle of wine £18 no brained. Haven't had a bad one in...
Read moreThis was a really interesting pub, still operating since the 1300s! The building looks like it, too. Old stone and mortar. Almost ruins looking. I had no plans of getting food at the time, but it was close enough to lunch time and the building interested me. Going in, I was greeted by the bartender, whose name I forget, but he was an extremely nice man that gave me a history lesson on the building, as well as other places in Swansea, the Castle, and The Mumbles. I got the fish and chips and assume it was pretty traditional, skin and bones and all. Us Americans aren't used to that, but I got through it ok :) It tasted fine. Lots to choose from on tap. Fast, great service and a really neat building...
