I had high hopes for Saffron Gold, an Indian curry house nestled in Warwick, but sadly, it was a mixed bag.
Let’s start with the good: the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly — the kind that makes you feel welcome the moment you step through the door. And the naan bread? Easily the highlight of the meal. Freshly cooked in a Kashmir tandoori oven, it was soft, pillowy, and slightly charred in all the right places. If I could have just eaten a basket of that, I might be writing a very different review.
Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn’t live up to the naan. I ordered a fish curry, which arrived looking rather sad — grey, rubbery, and alarmingly overcooked. Texture aside, the flavor lacked depth and didn’t bring the rich, fragrant punch you'd expect from a proper Indian curry house.
The real kicker? Let’s just say my digestive system went on a turbulent journey for several days afterward. I’m not sure what ingredient triggered it, but I spent more time in the bathroom than I care to admit.
In short: friendly service and phenomenal naan, but the rest of the meal left me regretting the visit. Proceed with caution — and maybe bring your...
Read moreDon't eat there if you are gluten free. We ordered a takeaway and stipulated that my wife had Celiac disease. I had requested them to clarify that all the items I had ordered were GF. They confirmed to me f2f when I collected the order. Upon returning home my wife looked at the menu and could see that the Mushroom Pilaf rice did not have a GF symbol next to it (she gets paranoid because of how ill she gets if glutened). She called the restaurant and challenged them over this, firstly they said no it is not GF and then she asked for a new order to be made. She heard the waiter ask the manger if the rice was GF and he answered that it was. Alas following this call and trust in the manager she ate the rice, the finally result is she was ill with the classic symptoms that go along with this disease. Saffron Gold team, you are liars and you need to be more diligent when dealing with people with allergies, simply putting a GF item next to a meal is not enough. It is either GF or not, it's quite simple. In my view you did not want to re-cook the order and...
Read moreReally loved this place and wish we lived locally so we could return soon! The vegetarian selection was varied and we enjoyed both the main dishes we tried. The paneer was cooked well and the pilau rice was so well spiced - delicious! The garlic naans were also very good, and had a good amount of garlic (though we wouldn't have turned down even more garlic!). Staff were very friendly and attentive, and we were given complimentary onion bhajis while we waited for our mains which was very kind (wasn't even that long a wait!). We aren't normally bothered about bhajis and other small starters but these were actually amazing - so crispy and flavoursome! Would definitely order them again. Only small criticism I have is that the mango lassi wasn't the best. I think could have done with more sweetness (and maybe a better quality yoghurt?).
I highly recommend this place and hope to come back the next time...
