The food and service are always good BUT why do they have to be soooo unnecessarily stingy??? It overrides good things, and leaves a bad taste. We eat out pretty much always, though more often around Oxford (though on occasion we've brought friends over to Suwanna from Oxford). Along the way, we've had many chats with staff in restaurants, and obviously we're used to bills etc. Nowhere is stingy like Suwanna - we know restaurants are there to make money, but there's a limit.... With our prawn crackers, Suwanna doles out the smallest imaginable sauce plates, only one of which we like, the chilli. Everywhere else we go puts out proper amounts of this, with when more available if you need. At Suwanna we always run out, and requests for more aren't successful. On our last visit, the pots were refilled, though there was space for more chilli (the pot holds a tablespoon at most). I asked if we could have a smigin more, and I was told snottily that it wasn't for me, it was for someone else's dish (we were in fact sharing, and it did affect me. We've asked to take remains home in the past, and been charged 30p for each takeaway tub - they don't tell you, they just add it to the bill. A further gripe, since I'm here, is that it's often cold in there when it's not busy - too mean for adequate hearing, I expect. These are quite small things, which is even more confounding. Why spoil an otherwise positive experience with silly miserly penny-pinching?I know they have a captive audience in Witney, but I'm...
Read moreAs a regular customer of this restaurant, it is disappointing to leave a negative review. We ordered a takeaway, which we chose items from the menu which was attached to the outside of the restaurant. When I questioned what we had been charged was different to the menu prices she told us that it was the wrong menu. How were we in the wrong here? She asked us what we wanted to do, and I asked for the difference to be refunded. She refused. She then snatched the food we’d already paid for, and was really rude to me. I asked her if we could speak with the owner and she said, no. After telling her I have paid for the food she then ignored us for 10 mins and proceeded to serve other customers. We have been customers at this establishment for 5 years, dining every week, spending £100 plus every week; and to be treated like this, I am absolutely appalled. No customer loyalty at all. I hope this review reaches the owners, and they can see that they have lost ours, our family and friends...
Read moreFood was mostly great. Starters were amazing (sweetcorn cakes, Thai spiced chicken wings and squid). Amazing texture and flavour.
Mains were mid. I got a tofu stir fried dish which landed any real flavour and was rather bland. My brother ordered a stir fried pork dish which was also just ok. We got a combination of mai thais, wine and Thai beer for dinks and these were all good.
Prices have slowly increased over the years, which is fine but the portions seem to have shrunk which is frustrating. Service also left a lot to be desired and whilst we didn't remove the service charge, we didn't feel inclined to leave a tip like we usually do. We felt rushed to be shifted on for the next booking even though there were plenty of empty tables.
It's really the only option in witney for Thai but I think I'd rather start venturing further afield to the abundance of amazing Thai in oxford next time it's a celebration and not just a mid...
