We stumbled across the Eagle Tavern unexpectedly when another lunch booking fell through. We were given a warm welcome and although super busy they managed to squeeze us in last minute for their Sunday roast. The experience was nothing short of spectacular. The food was absolutely outstanding every component was cooked to perfection. We had roast sirloin of beef, which came with all the trimmings: perfectly crispy roast potatoes, carrots, green beans, and cabbage, a silky celeriac purée, a giant Yorkshire pudding, and the best bit - a rich, savoury gravy that for once we didn't need to ask for more of! We added sides of pigs in blankets - which were full size chipolatas with a whole rasher of bacon wrapped around each - and some of the best cauliflower cheese we've ever tasted. With little room left we engaged our dessert stomach and shared a portion of the divine sticky toffee pudding. Yum. Considering the generous portions and the quality of the meal, it was also incredible value for money. The service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming - we made friends with all the tables around us. So good we booked to come back the following week! Thank you to the team at The Eagle. :]

UPDATE: Still wonderful, and has rapidly become my favourite place to eat in Witney, Oxfordshire. Had to come and update as I thought I would steer away from my favourite menu item, the schnitzel, and my second favourite, the mac n cheese, and went for a double up from the Bar Snacks menu... And Oh My... The Creamy Stout Mushrooms on cheese and toast with the Hooky Scotch Egg on the side... just blew my tastebuds through heaven and back... Creamy, full of flavour, the combination of Creamy stout sauce and tangy cheddar on gorgeous wholesome bread has just rivalled the schnitzel for joint top position for future visits! And...the scoth egg I usually just have as a bar snack.. one of the best you will find in the area. I can't think of a better chef in Witney...we do have some great eateries, but this Chef delivers a truly original menu, at very reasonable prices, and always excellent 😀 👌 Review 1: A proper pub, with proper ale, and proper pub food! Family run with the friendliest of staff, and whether its a pint after work or a weekend lunch... or an evening out with friends - its always enjoyable x highly recommending the quiz night once a month. Oh, and the schnitzel!

The Eagle Tavern has good range of well priced drinks both alcohol & alcohol free.

The landlords & staff are so welcoming, friendly and really efficient.

The food is fresh & very tasty, really well priced and generously portioned. Only available on Friday and Saturday lunchtimes and Sunday at lunchtime for a roast dinner. The sausage rolls that are behind the bar on the same days are delicious and, therefore, don't last long.

There's a seated garden area through the back.

It is a dog friendly pub but some are a bit unruly which is not great if you are scared of dogs.

There is no onsite parking but public parking is very close by.

The monthly quiz night...
