Update 14/8/20 There are very many reasons to visit the West Kirby Tap: delightful venue, wonderful staff, great cask ales, relaxed atmosphere... and one more reason added to the list recently, fantastic pizza menu, they are absolutely superb!

Update 22/7/20 The West Kirby Tap has now reopened after lockdown. A very simple customer registration process is in place, accomplished either by a smartphone QR code scan or good old pen and paper. Social distancing and hygiene measures are excellent. Seating capacity inside has reduced slightly but that doesn't affect the pub's delightful ambience one iota. Seating capacity outside has increased via the introduction of four seater benches. Table service is in place, and bar orders are given verbally to the attentive, ever-circulating bar staff. The cask ale quality is, as always, superb.

Superb brewery outlet with a relaxed atmosphere and a range of 8 guest cask ales covering a spectrum of beer/cider styles plus 3 craft ales. As you might expect in a brewery tap, beer quality is outstanding. Staff are very friendly and know their stuff ale-wise. Food is limited to cold plates, but is very good indeed.

Has become my go-to pub for great beer. However, the "entertainment" on Saturdays is of a variable standard and can be very loud.

My umpteenth visit today, beer food and atmosphere superb as usual. The music playlist varies in terms of genre considerably . If Nick is on the premises, it will be good.

Just called in for coffee today, it's (almost) as good as the beer, sat outside in the surprisingly-warm February sunshine, watching the world go by,...

Hands down one of the most incredible pizzas I've ever had! Their chef (I think was called Callum?) was so welcoming and professional and looked like he knew his way around a pizzeria for sure!

Whilst I waited, I ordered a brown ale, the likes of which I've not seen before, but variety is the spice of life, as they say. Compliments to the bartender with the cool tattoos for recommending it (I didn't catch his name) :)

Service was prompt, yet there was no skimping on quality, even at their affordable prices, which made me feel really valued.

The only downside I might add is the clientele, who on the whole are rather friendly, but it does attract some "hoity-toity" types from time to time. The customer after me was somewhat short-tempered and impatient with the barstaff, despite their obvious efforts to appease them.

Overall, I'd recommend this place to anyone who calls themselves a foodie, or believes themselves to be a brown ale...

The Best pub in West Kirby bar none. Possibly even the best pub on the Wirral.

An amazingly well kept beer selection that the staff keep in good rotation and try to vary as best as possible (to suit as many tastes as possible). I've never had a bad pint in this place. But there isnt only cask ale to marvel at. The Keg line up changes regularly too and has a few crackers on regularly. Not only that it has a great gin selection to.

The tap is a really comfortable friendly venue. and is full of people of all ages. Great live music acts on regularly and just right around the corner from the station perfectly placed for anyone visiting West Kirby for the day. Well behaved Children and dogs are welcome.

If your feeling hungry give the Charcuterie a try its pretty damn good! Last thing to mention is the staff are great, friendly, chatty and knowledgeable about the drinks they...

Called in for a quick drink with friends on a Saturday afternoon in March 2025, as knew the place well as it’s a reliable venue we’d all visited before. The place was clean and nicely laid out, although busy as always but we managed to get a table for two and then pulled two extra chairs over. Staff were busy and bar server seemed to know little about the ale range – but again, that’s not unexpected for the Tap. Ordered three beers and a prosecco – all good, and fairly priced. As it was busy there was quite a bit of background noise, so we only stayed for one and then left. Would recommend, and will at some point visit again but given during the afternoon we found several venues we’d not been to before, we’d probably give one of those a second try as they were generally quieter, had more engaged staff, and were of a comparable price.

The West Kirby tap is a bustling and well run pub, with lots of good beers on offer. The staff are lovely and Natalie was super helpful during our visit on Saturday. There are several of their own brewery, Spitting Feathers, beers and lots of great guest beers. We usually grab a pizza here, which are excellent and about £12 each, but the kitchen was closed today. It was no problem though as they allowed food in from the brilliant restaurant, Grand Ave, next door. The pub is always dog friendly and welcomes well behaved dogs. A must visit if you are in the area.
