Myrtle and May — Restaurant in Woking

Unfortunately disappointing.

Read lovely things on Facebook about this little coffee van, and usually these little independents places make excellent coffee, so we were very keen to try their coffee, but this was a huge let down.

Ordered a cappuccino & flat white, and both were just milky white coffees that looked identical. Literally zero foam and zero love put into it. The milk was also way too hot (burnt my tongue on the first sip) and consequently that had burned the coffee and destroyed any flavour that might have been there. It was so bad, we both poured ours down the drain on the walk home. The Malteaser slice was also just a bit like fridge cake. Acceptable, but by no means amazing.

This place strikes me as being a bit pretentious; something the well-to-do locals would rave about, without actually knowing what good coffee should be.

On the plus side, the welcome was warm and friendly, and the van looks very cute and is a great idea, but the standard of the coffee (or barista) need...

Beautiful spot by the river, very pleasant with wooden chairs and parasols. Staff were friendly. Obviously dog friendly (you sit outdoors!), but of course no toilets (again, it's outside!). I want to love this, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Disposable cups etc only due to location, but don't seem to be compostable, although the "plates" are card. I ordered a flat white, and I would describe the coffee as rather bitter and cappuccino style rather than flat white. Perhaps their baristas vary? Bagel with feta and avocado was acceptable, but not excellent. Worth a visit for the beautiful location, but not sadly for the coffee. If they could improve their offerings they would...

Visted cafe on Saturday 2nd November and can't praise Kiwi & Scot highly enough. Very much enjoyed the coffee and the bacon baps were absolutely delicious. Had one bap initially and it was so good that I had another! Cost was comparable to "mainstream " coffee bars but food's quality was infiinitely superior..Service was excellent; polite and friendly. Extremely pleasant atmosphere too, even though the weather wasn't brilliant. That all the chairs provided were occupied attests to the popularity of the cafe and its being based on a boat is an added, pleasant aspect. I shall very definitely return and can highly recommend...
