Church's Texas Chicken — Restaurant in Abilene

I love ❤ Church's Chicken, my sandwich was hot and the Worker was fantastic so that is the one star! Otherwise it would have needed a big fat ZERO! I am so disappointed in almost everything! My chicken didn't taste good at all!!! The BBQ/honey sauce yuk, so much sauce on sandwich it dripped all over the place when I pick it up off my TRUCK SEAT!!!!😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬 and soaked through the package so it fell out the bottom of the bag!!!! My service when I got there was fast! Took my money right off. Then I watched as the two workers and owner did some of their stuff. Owner stocked napkins, boxes, cups and fiddled with that not messy stuff! Worker 1 working on very large order and a smaller one (smaller order drive thru asked to pull forward even though no one behind them). Both waiting on biscuits and chicken! Cook watching 👀 the chicken cook. On the bone fried chicken and nothing else. NO french fries, okra, fried pies or Chicken Sandwich chicken breast! Then he started sifting particles out of the flour when the chicken was done. When Worker 1 had big order done she got that to her! She then took two boneless breast and got them ready, dropped them then cleaned up. This entire time manager and cook were doing NOTHING!! While all this was happening a FedEx employee was waiting for food! He got angry, asked for a refund then left! He was a very ANGRY MAN! The manager was perplexed as to WHY! I had been standing here for 16 minutes and all I order was a chicken sandwich 🥪! I had been there waiting for my order 10 minutes before my chicken had even been dropped! By the WORKER NOT THE COOK!!!! I said well maybe you and your cook should help her ( I pointed to Worker 1) instead of standing around doing nothing. I have watched her do everything except cook the chicken on the bone and stock paper products! It was 10 minutes before my chicken was even started and not even the cook did it! She has cooked everything needed, waited on customers, cleaned, drive thru, cash register when you are not and puts all the orders together. GIVE THAT GIRL A HUGE RAISE 💰💵 After the chicken was cooked the Manager did put the chicken in the 2nd waiting person's order and get it...

Wouldn't be my first pick but it satisfied. Food was kind of bland for a place that touts being a Texas home-grown restaurant with bold flavors.

This was disappointing considering how many people swear by Church's over it's competitors like Raising Canes, Chick-fil-A, Golden Chick, or even Popeyes.

I don't know what it is about these Texas chicken places but whenever they take my order I ask for extra sauce and they just ignore that and give me gravy. This has happened more than once. At first this was frustrating but later I was thankful. The gravy, albeit a little flavorless, is a recommended combo. What seemed like a blatant disregard to the customers wishes turned into what felt like a warm recommendation from a sibling advising you on what flavor candy you should get.

On that note I am very thankful to Church's Chicken for turning me on to the Texas phenomenon that is fried chicken and gravy.

This Churches Chicken is always slow and not very friendly. I have actually had many issues throughout the year's with this store. Hair in my tender strip and I mean it was mixed in with the batter. It was wrapped in it not around it! A piece of white plastic in another tender. Anyways I went for just some mashed potatoes and brown gravy and an okra. I asked if they could put an ungodly amount of brown gravy over the potatoes and add a little side of brown gravy. They said ok and then had me pull up to the front so they could bring it out. I was the only person there! Another car had come up behind me directly after paying. I waited like 10 min for a couple of sides and then there was barely any gravy at all on the mashed potatoes and the extra gravy bowl was maybe half full. And the bowl was the smallest one...
