Update: 7/26/25 we've been in a few times since the last review. I didn't mention it on the last review but the food was just warm and they were really busy so I just told the server. I thought I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since they were busy and just trying to push out plates. However, the next time was the same thing. Waitress tells you hot plate, but the food is just warm. The hot plate will not make up for warm food. I had the vegetarian combo with mild green(not vegetarian anymore since the green has pork) but it was really good. Even the mild has some spice to it. The guacamole tostada is a great compliment to this plate. My wife had the cheese enchiladas with red. The chile was very flavorful. We also ordered the chile cheese fries and asked for half and half. They put one chile on top of the other. I've never known any restaurant to not put half on one side, and half on the other. They weren't very good mixed. I would have given it 5 stars if not for this. Lastly, there is a review from Nina S. that said this restaurant doesn't know what hot is. There must have been a mix-up or something on their order because the hot is way too hot and the medium is probably as much heat as I would ever want. I don't understand how you would want or need something so hot that you can't even enjoy the food. The consistency of their spiciness has been consistency over the years, and if anything, it's only gone up a notch. I would always prefer something that tastes good and you can enjoy over something that is so hot that you can't.

We were en route from Albuquerque to Pueblo, and stopped for gas in Alamosa. It was noon, so I asked the gas station attendant for a recommendation - he said, Nino’s next door is really good. So we went to Nino’s, and it was great! To be safe in an unfamiliar restaurant, I ordered Nino’s Burrito and my wife ordered Nino’s Combination. Both were very delicious! The server Dennis was super friendly and efficient, and our food came out quickly. Atmosphere was very pleasant with lots of locals. Prices were very reasonably. Highly recommended. (Note: there are several Mexican restaurants at that corner, so be sure to select Nino’s!)

The service here is usually terrible but at least the food is usually good. Today however I ordered a chimichanga and I got a baby sized version for a normal price. I'm a regular here and I've never seen such a small chimichanga anywhere let alone here. Look at the picture compared to the size of the fork! One thing I will not return for is tiny portions! If I'm not getting my money's worth I'm NOT returning. It's basically theft when you order something and it's half the size it should be. What is a customer supposed to do return it, or just not return!? Clearly tiny in the picture.

I wanted to take the time to acknowledge that we were fully compensated and the extra time was made to correct the original poor experience we had. THANK YOU!!

This has to be the worst customer service I have ever received anywhere! We were seated quickly which was a plus and were expecting good service but then sat there for what seemed like forever while another party larger than ours sat down right after and received their chips and drinks as they were still being seated. We sat around waiting for our waiter or waitress with no acknowledgement. After about 30 minutes we went to find someone to let them know we had not been helped, and it still took several minutes before someone brought us chips and salsa but no water. 15 minutes later the waitress came and took our drink orders and food orders because she knew we waited a while; we noticed that the other table about 10 minutes after our food order was taken got their food ordered as well. We attempted to order milk for a toddler but were told they were out of milk on top of that a salad was ordered and blue cheese was the selection for dressing. Shortly after the order was placed the waitress came to tell us they were also out of blue cheese. We waited for what felt like forever our food during which point we had to walk across the street to get milk at a gas station because of the wait, so once again chose to get up to find someone to cancel because the other table who ordered after us and was a larger party received their food. After returning to the table to cancel the food was being brought out FINALLY! We asked for more chips and never got them, we were never asked for refills on water or any other drinks, no one came and checked on us, however, the other larger table was being waited on promptly. When we asked for a manager to get some kind of compensation the manager said he would speak to the owner. When we waited for another 30 minutes for the check and when the waitress came out we again asked about what type of compensation they could offer we were told, "The owners said they did they best they could." We were obviously already upset and to hear that was just enough so told her that's fine and its unfortunate the owners made them do the dirty work considering we had requested to speak with them and they not once came out! Reading the other reviews it seems there are several outstanding reviews and after seeing others treated better they pick and choose who they want to treat well; I compensate very well for good service when it is given. But "the owners did the best they could," that's unfortunate because they did not offer so much as coming to the table to apologize they sent the waitress to do so only after we asked a second time. Upon arriving, one of our party members sent a text with a picture of herself in the restaurant, the time was 6:58 p.m.. We had to ask for our check and finally exited at 8:33 p.m. So an hour and a half, for which we had to go find an employee for every step of the process of enjoying a night out. You ruined an evening and lost customers. We will be sharing our experience with everyone who...

Sunday evening, staying in a motel, wanting to get some takeout because we both had colds. This place had good reviews. Called, talked to a very competent person on the phone, placed our order, said it would be ready in 20 minutes. So far so good.

Arrived 22 minutes later. This is a big place, with a “please wait to be seated” sign in the entranceway. No one there. Waited a little, someone came over, said I was there for takeout, sent me to the bar. There was a person who I assumed (wrongly) was the bartender waiting on another patron. It was taking some time, so I got in line and made sure I caught his eye so he’d know I was next. He finished, then disappeared. I sat there. Finally a young lady came up and said “have you been helped?” “No - I have a takeout order.” She looked on the computer, gave me the cost, gave her a credit card, she said “that will be out in a minute.” Five or ten minutes later it came out - without the drinks I’d ordered. So another wait for those, no quite so long, but the food is, of course, cooling off, especially since they didn’t have a carton large enough to hold the taco shell that held the taco salad. But finally - all done. My overall impression was - “where’s the adult in charge?” These were nice local kids but really not competent restaurant staff. And no good provisions for takeout - two drinks and a big bag - no drink carrier, so a balancing act. A year and a half into Covid you’d think they’d know how to do takeout.

So got back to the motel - no utensils! I should have asked, but … Fortunately, the hotel breakfast room had plastic stuff and napkins, so finally we’re ready to eat. At that point I was not expecting much.

But - even though it had cooled somewhat, my Taos Enchiladas were really good. Tasty sauce (medium red) with a little bite, fresh onions, well seasoned beef filling. My wife’s chicken taco salad was real short on lettuce (oh, there it is hiding at the bottom under everything else) but the chicken was really tasty and the onions and green peppers with it very good. Fresh guacamole, too, not that frozen stuff.

So - four stars for the food, one for the service - although it was a Sunday evening, and the kids running it were nice if not very professional. I’d like to go back on a Friday night when the owner’s there. In a town full of Mexican restaurants, I’m guessing this is one...

My wife and I stop at Nino’s every time we visit the area, often with family who live in the SLV; having grown up in the SLV, Nino’s was a flagship for our families both on my side and my wife’s side, but this visit was likely our last meal for a few reasons; first, our food was not the typical warmth we have come to expect over the years frequenting the restaurant, my wife noting her plate of food was cold which I agreed with; second, the quality of the meal was not the typical high standard we have come to enjoy, which can be reflected in the lack of flavor and portion size - one example being the tostada toppings did not cover the tostada shell which had been customary; third, the sodas (which come in larger sized cups which we have enjoyed over the past few years) were topped off with ice so the amount was minimal, and we never received refills while our two granddaughters (9 & 11) were brought the same sized drink cups which were too big and well overpriced for the amount of soda contained therein ($3.50 per drink); next, we ordered a few sopapillas which have become an integral part of our Nino’s meals which have changed from the typical culturally large, fluffy sopapilla to a small (approximately 4” diameter) portion with an exorbitant price of $8.25 for two of these small portions - this was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back which has ended our dedication as Nino’s customers; finally, the service was prompt and took care of our order and food delivery, but we did not receive a refill of chips and salsa nor drinks during our meal after our long drive back to the SLV

We realize inflation is a reflection of our current economy, however, the cost for our meal was overpriced for what we received in terms of food quality and portion, and we learned from our local family members that they have stopped eating at Nino’s as well due to diminished quality and increased prices.

Adios to Nino’s as a regular stop on our...
