I often read other reviews and sometimes, quite frankly, it has discouraged me to patronize a place. Since we were staying at the Coast Hotel at Lake Hood, and since Pipers is the restaurant there, we (three adults) gave it a try in spite of some negative reviews. To that point, I am a bit baffled by a couple of reviews I read. To be sure, everyone has likely had a bad experience at a good restaurant, and with the COVID experience, some places may be short of staff and thus slow of service, but I also think that some people forget that a restaurant called a "sports lounge" is not going to be a fancy, linen table-cloth restaurant and they should adjust their reviews accordingly. Anyway, we ate there three times--twice in back-to-bake evenings and once for breakfast. In each case, the servers were great and attentive despite the place being busy, and the food was quite good. The drinks were also really good and well-prepared. The breakfast was also very good and generous. So I gave it five stars for being good...
Read moreThis place is really good. I took my spouse here for a special occasion breakfast and I was honestly blown away by the whole experience. The staff was fast and friendly and the place was very clean. The menue was simple, however there was at least 4 options I couldn't decide between and decided to go with the chicken fried steak. The portion was perfect. The gravy was perfect, and the bread for the toast was some or the best bread I've ever had. The service was speedy, but not so fast it felt like they were rushing us out. The staff was happy and dancing around and talking to the patrons like old friends. I will 100 percent be back to try the rest of the menue. I would give it an 8.5 out of 10 but the out of 5 system can be hard. Honey reason it's not a 5 is the seats are not very comfortable and they served me the wrong eggs, but the eggs they did serve me were absolutely...
Read moreWe went for appetizers and a drink after work. They were positively packed all night (weeknight). No propane in the heaters outside. We sat outside for a while but then it just got too cold and with no propane we ended up moving inside. We had three different appetizers. The nachos were positively loaded and pretty tasty. The fried pickles were good but it was a pretty small serving. I did not love the quesadilla special because the meat was pretty fatty. Our server tried his best, but it was exceptionally slow service all night. My observation would be that it was more of a management/staffing issue than an issue with him personally. At one point I finally went to the bar to get appetizer plates, and on several other occasions we struggled to get attention for what we needed. I'm saying this place is average because while some of the food was okay, the service really was less...
