Sami's City Diner — Restaurant in Alaska

Me and my family travelled about 100 miles from Seward on our way to Cantwell, Alaska 200+ miles from Anchorage. 🚐🗻🏔️ We left Seward at around 7:30am as we all were still adjusting to Alaska’s Standard Time, which is 4 hrs behind our usual EST. 🥱😴 As we approached Anchorage, one of us felt compelled to eat some brunch as some of us only had cereal 🥣 before heading out onto the road. We decided to stop by Sami’s City Diner as it was a diner and also because I preferred to stop by somewhere local rather than the basic choice of Wendy’s or Taco Bell.

I ordered a Crabby Benny’s, one of the dishes the waiter stated as a top-seller, alongside some loaded tater tots and OJ to drink. Now I rarely order Eggs Benedict 🥚, especially one that includes crab 🦀, avocado 🥑, and pico de gallo 🍅🧅🫑 alongside the usual poached egg, hollandaise sauce, & English muffin. But, I’ll have to say that this dish tasted pretty unique with all that it had in addition to my addition of pepper and some classic Tabasco sauce. Plus, as I decided to order the Loaded Tots for the table, everyone pretty much DESTROYED that side dish with its cheesy bacon topping and sour cream on the side. As for the OJ 🍊, it was a bit mediocre but I still savored it with my meal, regardless, as it cleansed my pallet of the brunch I had.

Regretfully, I couldn’t muster getting a milkshake or dessert due to how much I had to eat and how much everything rounded up to in the end. But, overall, the experience felt fulfilling, the waiters catered to our needs in a professional and accommodating manner 😁😄, the bathroom 🚽 was well maintained when I used it prior to eating, and I managed to snag a few complimentary toothpicks before heading out!! I’m giving this a low rating because 2 weeks ago on a Thursday my family of 5 wanted to try this place out unfortunately, it was nap time for my baby and she didn’t want anybody else so everybody else got to eat except for me until the end the waitress came and asked if we needed anything else we said no just the check I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs with hashbrowns and toast. My husband cut it all up for me after he was done eating. I maybe got five bites in and another lady not our waitress that was cleaning up tables came over to our table and just started grabbing plates saying absolutely nothing and took my plate first A FULL PLATE OF FOOD! I only got about five bites in and my husband just finished cutting it up for me so I can eat in one hand and hold my baby in the other, and she comes up to my plate and takes it and puts my husband‘s plate along with the napkins and other trash on the table on the plate I was an absolute shock. I didn’t know what to do. I just sat there and just started laughing super hard while tears streamed down my face. My husband asked if I even got to eat and I said no it was a full plate of food. I was confused on why she didn’t offer a to go box for me or ask if I was done and just took the person with a full plate of foods plate instead of the empty plates I didn’t say anything. We just paid the bill and left, but I probably won’t be going back because of this. It was very upsetting to me after I let it sit in for a day or two but shocking in the moment. I felt like I was eating out of a horses trough, my plate came so dirty it was awful, the toast is pre cooked and stale, I barely had any corned beef in my bowl, it was so bland I used salat and I don’t use salt, my eggs were rock hard (one was only egg whites) and I ordered medium…. The hash was def pre cooked cuz the potatoes don’t look anything like they do in the photos, as they came out like mush and cold..

Thinking of cold, the young guy this morning working the pass and back tables, took someone’s food walked towards their table where they were sat around the corner on the left past the bathrooms, literally turned his hand upside down and used the back of his hand to feel the temp of the food and he hesitated but carried on to their table… they couldn’t see it as he did it before he turned the corner to head down the back to their table … that’s just gross!

My husband ordered ham and eggs sub fruit - the ham was GORGIOUS, the eggs well one was super hard but the other two were super soft and he also ordered medium, his toast were also stale and cold but his fruit salad was an embarrassment that looked old!

Our server was so lovely and I didn’t get her name she was working the area around the bathrooms at the bar…

All the staff worked like clock work and so hard, just think the food needs some TLC (attention to detail goes a long ways) cuz it’s a beautiful diner.. I’ll post pics … we ate here this morning! July 20th 2025...
