I had the great fortune of being able to go to Alaska for a friends wedding. During my time in Alaska I had a lot of great food but, at the end of the day there is something about a great burger that really satisfies!
Tommy's Burger Shop is exactly that - a darn good burger! Tommy's is a small and very eclectic burger joint, the staff is very attentive even though they are (from what I could tell) really busy all the time. My Dad and I were simply in the mood for some regular cheese burgers but, after looking over the menu we we're both astonished to see that they had a Cajun Style Fired Shrimp Po-Boy which we could not turn down. We both settled on 2 Burger Stop Burgers and a Shrimp-Po Boy for desert. Once we ordered, and since we had no place to be we went out to the small patio and sat down awaiting our meals. To say we were ready to eat is a huge understatement at this point.
First and foremost the pictures you see online do not do this burger justice, it is a massive patty and the Lettuce, Tomato, Onions and Pickles were extremely fresh. The burger itself was seasoned to perfection and cooked perfectly. It can be hard to "rave" about a burger but- this one here deserves the hype. After scarfing down the burgers we turned our eyes to the Po-Boy... Knowing full well that there was no way in heck we would finish the whole thing, we split one of the half's down the middle and had at it. The flavor of the Po-Boy was spot on - there was a perfect crunch from the well prepared shrimp and and paired with the Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, and Fresh Lemon made it well worth every second (even though we barley could move from our seats). Needless to say, we kept the other half for later. So at the end of my sermon here, I just wanted you to know that Tommy's is a fantastic spot for a burger and I imagine if you had one of their specialties it would be amazing. So if you are in the area do yourself a solid, and stop on by!
And, Tommy's keep doing your thing - it is...
Read moreIt's a cute little Burger Shop with a bunch of things all over the walls like the old red robin designs used to be.. I'm a person that loves seasoned food and salt and spices but they're a little heavy-handed on the already Cajun seasoned fries. they put this coarse salt on top of it which is too salty. But I love how big the RL Burger is I added an egg to it and took the jalapenos off . there wasn't any sauces or meat juice dripping all over your hands which I was looking forward to. But it was very interesting to eat such a clean Burger where the bread isn't falling apart and you're not looking like a wild animal. I was very intrigued that it's so clean to eat.. I think I will ask for extra mayonnaise and from mustard to be put on the burger so it's more juicy. We want the juicy greasiness ! OMG it's huge which i love and you get a lot even with the small fry. I got a shake too and some dipping sauces on the side. But the salt is too strong in the dipping sauce as well. For me to say that something is too salty should be a crime because most of the time I'm complaining about how the restaurants here don't season their food but it is too much salt here. they don't need coarse salt on top of everything else. I think kosher salt or regular salt or something that can actually absorb into the food without overpowering it would be a better choice so you're not strangling in salt crystals. They have a lot to choose from on the menu! you have to make sure you have the right menu becauae some of the ones dont have everything they have on it and look at what they have on posters inside the store and in the windows for specials so you can make sure you're ordering what you really want and you're not missing out. They are very nice with the service. And it was busy the lines were out of the door. Even with the extra salt it was well worth the 45 minute wait. It's a small place but they do have...
Read moreThis is obviously a very highly rated place and I've heard over and over that it's a good spot. I definitely had to come try for myself.
Maybe it's just during the winter, but seating is hard to come by. The few small tables there are get quickly filled and those who are waiting for one circle like vultures... so much so that customers seat themselves before the tables get wiped down. There also isn't a lot of room to navigate or wait after you've ordered. That was really the only negative I had to say about it. Wife and I ordered and managed to get a table after about 10 minutes during the lunch rush. Lots of folks waiting in their cars for orders to go and even more running in to pick up ones they called in. Service was very slow overall... orders piled up and most waited 30-40 minutes to get theirs.
While we waited, we browsed the decor. Lots of random duct tape, stickers, and memorabilia from Star Wars, Elvis, etc. One review said it felt like the place was decorated by a teenager from the early 2000's. I'd have to agree.
When we finally got our food, it was hot and fresh and loaded. I had the RLE burger and small onion rings, and I hated myself for the entire day after eating it. Really, really good... and portioned bigger than I expected. Onion rings were good and the fries were okay. The sauces are cheaply priced and delicious. If I had one complaint about the burger it was that it isn't really seasoned. The toppings and other items on the burger made up for it in the end.
It's worth a try. We will be calling in an order next time and give a few of the other...
