Nestled near the bustling energy of a college campus, DG’s Deli & Market offers a delightful escape into the comforting world of homestyle sandwiches, where the emphasis on fresh, quality ingredients truly shines. Stepping inside, one immediately picks up on the welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere – the kind of vibe that makes you feel instantly at ease, whether you're a student grabbing a quick bite or a local seeking a satisfying lunch. I opted for their Genoa Prosciutto and Provolone sandwich, a classic combination that can often reveal the caliber of a sandwich shop. From the first bite, it was clear that "fresh" wasn't just a marketing buzzword here. The prosciutto was thinly sliced and boasted a delicate, slightly salty flavor that spoke of quality. The provolone, creamy and mild, provided a perfect counterpoint without overpowering the star ingredient. What truly elevated this sandwich, however, were the supporting players. The bread, seemingly sourced or baked with care, had a satisfying chew and held its contents admirably without becoming soggy. The accompanying vegetables – crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and perhaps a touch of tangy onion or a smear of flavorful Italian dressing (details I wish I'd noted more precisely!) – were vibrant and bursting with freshness. Each element worked in harmony, creating a well-balanced and genuinely enjoyable sandwich. Adding to the experience was the homemade macadamia nut cookie, a sweet finale that felt like a warm hug. The texture and taste were undeniably homemade – soft, slightly crumbly, and possessing that comforting richness that only comes from real butter and quality ingredients. It wasn't overly sweet, making it the perfect complement to the savory sandwich. The side pickle was another testament to their attention to detail. It wasn't the mass-produced, overly vinegary variety. Instead, it offered a satisfying crunch and a balanced tang that cleansed the palate effectively. It felt like a thoughtful addition, rather than an afterthought. My friend, meanwhile, raved about their Reuben. According to their enthusiastic review, the corned beef was tender and flavorful, the sauerkraut had the perfect level of tanginess, and the Russian dressing was rich and creamy. They specifically highlighted the quality of the grilled rye bread, noting its satisfying texture and the way it held together the generous filling. Their enjoyment was palpable, further solidifying the shop's reputation for crafting delicious, well executed sandwiches across their menu. The "college vibe" mentioned is definitely a part of the charm. It suggests a casual and comfortable setting where students can gather and enjoy a satisfying meal without breaking the bank. The "very welcoming" aspect implies friendly service, a relaxed atmosphere, and a sense of community that makes patrons feel valued. This kind of environment often contributes significantly to the overall dining experience, making you want to return not just for the food, but for the feeling. In conclusion, DG’s Deli & Market appears to be a gem for anyone seeking a truly satisfying and genuinely fresh sandwich experience. Their commitment to quality ingredients shines through in every bite, from the expertly crafted Genoa Prosciutto and Provolone to the reportedly delicious Reuben. The homemade cookie and thoughtful side pickle further underscore their dedication to providing a complete and enjoyable meal. Coupled with a welcoming, college-friendly atmosphere, this sandwich shop offers a taste of home-style goodness that is sure to leave a lasting impression. If you're in the area, DG’s Deli & Market is definitely worth a visit – your taste buds...
Read moreFirst time there. Ordered a Pizza Steak without pepperoni. Born in Philly and never seen pepperoni on a steak sandwich. Asked for fried onions and they charged me extra without telling me even though they saved the cost of pepperoni. D&G is too greedy for me so I won't be back. Food was good and is expensive.
EDIT 5/14/25 To the owner...
If you had carefully read my review you would have understood my comments and not had any difficulty in understanding my review.
I didn't NOT get pepperoni on the pizza steak I ordered. I ORDERED MY PIZZA STEAK WITHOUT PEPPERONI BECAUSE PIZZA STEAKS SHOULDN'T/DON'T COME WITH PEPPERONI ON THEM in the cheesesteak world. That you choose to include pepperoni on a pizza steak is uncommon and unique. On a pizza, yes. On a Cheesesteak... NO.
By asking to NOT put pepperoni on my pizza steak D&G saved that expense, I was surprised to be charged for grilled onion, but wasn't told I would be charged, which is a commonly included item on a cheesesteak.
D&G's reviews seem to be taking a down turn lately so rather than question the validity of a bad review take a look at what is causing them?
Without an email address on your website for us to discuss this directly here on Google Reviews will have to do.
EDIT: 5/27/25 To the owner...
Against my better judgment I decided to give D&G other try.
Bought a $14 sandwich and was charged $.30 for a cup for water without being told. Anyone that goes to D&G be careful they might charge you extra for dining in.
D&G's arrogance is only exceeded by their GREED.
And to the Owner... this is a TRUE review of two disappointing experiences at D&G Deli. I wont's waste my time or money giving D&G...
Read moreI'm changing my ratings due to changes within the restaurant. The owner now runs the front counter, and she is too slow and rude. After not going here in about 3 mths, I went last weekend. I made an order at 1318 and was told it would he ready in 20 minutes. I showed up almost 30 minutes later and I was told they were about to start my order. I told the owner, I was told 20 minutes and she says "well there's no way that happened" I proceeded to show her my.phone log which reflected 28 mins since my call. She ignored me and simply told me to sit down and wait with everyone else. The guy next to me was rather upset also, he said the same thing happened to me. Wheb my food was finally ready she charges me but never brings the food. Finally one of her friendly staff members brought my food since she didn't. I used to love this place, but the Great Stake escape turned out not so Great. The staff and cooks are nice as always. The owner is not only rude, but works at a snail's pace. Not to mention trying to micro manage the cooks in between talking to ppl and bringing up items. PLEASE bring back the nice, quick, friendly college kids to the front shelf. Owner needs to stay in the kitchen since she's better at micro managing then she is at...
