The area that this hotel is located in is actually nice and kind of charming, which makes the quality of the hotel and our experiences staying there so strange. When my friend and I checked in, we were instantly made uncomfortable by the multiple men casually hanging around the parking lot and inside the doorway of a first floor room, who were watching every move we made and were clearly talking about us. There is of course nothing wrong with hanging out and watching people, but the fact that they did this for hours on end and appeared to be on familiar terms with the staff members indicate that they hang out there on a regular basis. You can come to your own conclusions about what they do there. Our room wasn't terrible, but the remote for the TV was missing (it was apparently stolen some time back, and it sounds like none of the rooms have remotes for this reason). However, the television didn't work anyway (yes, I made sure it was turned on and plugged in), so I guess it didn't matter. We went out to a bar a few blocks down (we ended up driving because my friend felt uncomfortable even just walking through the parking lot) and when we came back, the staff member who checked us in was using a bull horn to shoo a pretty messed up looking individual off the property. I'm not sure if this was a joke or not, since the staff member and men hanging out in the parking lot were laughing, but the person that the directive was aimed at threw their hands up in the air and went back across the street, where they plopped down on the curb. We didn't emerge for the rest of the night, although I was tempted to make a run for it when a cockroach scuttled across the bathroom floor while I was on the loo. Running wasn't an option though, because any sudden movements on the toilet made the whole apparatus shift and caused the toilet seat to slide around. I had nightmares about hordes of cockroaches emerging from the gaping hole in the wall under the AC the entire night. The reason I'm writing this review isn't to cast this business in a bad light or scare people away (well....maybe a little bit). The room itself is pretty reasonably priced, although we paid the same amount for a much nicer hotel in Las Cruces the next day. I just think that this hotel isn't for everyone. If you don't want to feel like you're about to star in an episode of Breaking Bad, I recommend paying a little more money to stay somewhere else. However, we obviously made it out safe and sound, as did the elderly couple checking in around the same time as us. So if we can brave it,...
Read moreWe planned to stay the night in the city, for shopping and the tram ride the next day. So we had made reservation a couple days before. POW, getting there and seeing it in person...... what difference from the pictures on the internet When we first arrived, was asked to see a room before we completed our reservation. as it was looking pretty sketchy. The 20 something guy behind the register, with a rolling of the eyes and a loud sigh....reluctantly went out side without saying a word .... we were just supposed to understand that he was going to grant us this huge favor, and show us a room, which he did. If it were not so late we would have left and found another hotel.
After we got our room key we had to go back to the office to ask the clerk something, but he was not in the office instead we found him behind and slightly under the stair case outside the office smoking "pot" with two other guys. FYI pot smells similar to a skunk, but any how we interrupted him (them) and got what we needed.
So I thought well I am going to report this guy to the owner or manger in the morning. Well as it happened , I came out side to get something from the car, and I saw another guy out smoking drugs (pot) under the steps with the other 3, and again I thought in the morning I will complain to the manager/ owner. Well when morning came we went into the office to check out.... imagine my surprise to see the manager owner balding middle aged Indian guy behind the counter was one of the guys out smoking dope that night. So there was no need to share my complaint with him. When we asked for a receipt he said no he could not give us one. I said I just gave you some money and so you are going to give me a receipt. He again said no, I dont have one and my printer is broken, I then said.... Than you need to write one out by hand..... or we will all be meeting with the police, with that he went into the back room wrote out a receipt came into the lobby and through it on the counter and walked out with out a word. Well I could go on about the breakfast that was in the lobby as well... but we were not about to have any of that. This was our real experience at the days inn on central ave... I hope it paints a more accurate picture of the place .... that we will never...
For starters, I had a reservation after a long day of driving and was looking forward to laying down immediately upon arrival. When I showed up, the room I reserved was booked and they wanted to charge me extra to stay in the larger room that was vacant. I was made aware that the people that do over-the-phone bookings are from the corporate office like to overbook the rooms and leave the staff to deal with the aftermath.
Additionally the room (111) had multiple glaring issues that need to be addressed. The door was always jammed. The mirror on the wall was hanging on only one loose screw and was leaning against the table to hide the problem (photos attached). Also, the top door lock had the wood carved out around it so I couldn’t secure the door (also photographed). I wouldn’t have minded that too much but the people hanging out in the parking lot that were constantly pacing by my door. The motel from breaking bad where they filmed the meth-heads and prostitutes hanging around the parking lot is a few blocks away but I’m pretty sure it based on this days inn. These issues feel like another example of corporate being cheap and refusing to address obvious issues.
If you’ve read this much, you’re probably wondering why I’m giving this more than zero stars and it’s because of the staff, specifically Raquel. When I showed up and my room had been taken, she immediately contacted her manager and was able to get me the more expensive room for at no additionally charge. She did all this while simultaneously defusing a situation where a man was being rude to her after trying to give her 77 cents as a down payment for a room and she did it all with a smile on her face. After I had settled into my room, she stopped by and gave me a map of the city and she had marked off personalized suggestions based on what little she knew about me. I’m convinced that if she ever decides to leave, this place will fall apart.
This days inn experience felt like another great example of corporate greed leaving both the customers and staff in the dust in order to increase profits. I will never stay in another days inn again but I am willing return to this location because I trust Raquel will ensure I have a...
