This was our first time trying this place after seeing multiple posts on social media. Let me start with the positives, the place is in a great location and had a pretty chill atmosphere.
Con's The service was utter chaos, half the staff doesn't speak English which is not uncommon, but communication was definitely a problem, luckily I'm fluent in Spanish because over half the staff speaks Mexican only.
We were not offered any drinks other than water, we never were offered any soft drinks or drinks they offer and at that we had just the one glass of water never was refilled.
We ordered egg fried rice for our little guy, when the order came out it's literally scrambled eggs mixed in with steamed rice. Our son hated it. We sent it back and ordered plain steamed rice for him. When that order came out it contained a hair in it. We didn't pull the hair trick, it literally had hair in it. We made a complaint to what appeared to either be the owner or main man running the show he offered to comp the rice.
When his new rice came out it was the fried rice 3 different times. We had to explain to him that we just wanted steamed rice but again to my original complaint is that the communication in this place is something like I've never experienced.
We ordered coconut shrimp and the shrimp was pretty good but came out without any sauce, just the shrimp on plate. We had to ask the server if it was accompanied with any sauce and he had to bring us some.
The menu is primarily sushi rolls. Their nigiri and sashimi menu is limited. Your staple rolls are a flat 8 bucks while their specialty rolls are 16 bucks which IMO is kinda pricey , we ordered 2 nigiri, 2 specialty rolls and 2 staple rolls. Let me start by saying their portions are pretty generous , we were concerned that the rolls were not cold. They were pretty much at room temperature. We were concerned with the fact that you had everyone just running around making the food from the bussers to the servers. We were brought our food and a few minutes later another busser told us we had the wrong food and removed the plate and took it to another table. After multiple attempts of correcting our order we finally complained, the main guy comped our entire order. We left with only about 30% of our order eaten. We were concerned with the lack of service and quality of the food.
We observed multiple customers leaving their plates almost entirely full, This should have been our red flag to leave, But we thought we'd stick it out needless to say we were very disappointed.
The service needs some serious work and communication needs to be taken seriously. Quantity of food does not substitute for quality.
We will not return...
Read moreFood is always amazing the son who owns the place is really sweet. My family and I have been going since they opened. Unfortunately, we will not be going back ever. A few times we went we were disrespected by his mother and father who also help him with the place. Last time I took my little cousin with me the dad threw the plates on the table at us then the mother threw the menu at us. When we went up to pay the mom charged me $64.70 when rolls are 50% off and I only ordered 5 so you get the math it would be less than $30. She got very upset mind you none of them speak english so miscommunication happens and she snatched my card out of my hand to pay. She does this a lot so I didn’t mind until yesterday. These people are very unprofessional and rude. For one yesterday they sat us down at a table then after 10 minutes told us to move because they wanted to seat other people there. We moved the table they put us at was filthy and sticky and the sun was in our eyes. We settled at that table they then told us we had to move to another table again. So we did then we sat down ordered and when they brought 5 out of the 6 rolls we ordered they started giving the others their orders and they forgot one of my sushi rolls and charged me for it when i told them i never received it. Then we we just finished with our food and the owners mother gave us the receipt after 5 minutes of us all talking and planning on where to go after she comes to our table rudely grabs the receipt and starts pointing at us to come pay because they wanted to seat other people. We then kept telling her to split the payment into 2 and she kept trying to grab my sisters card to pay for all of it. She then finally did 2 separate transactions and she snatched my sisters card from her hand and threw the receipt at her to sign with no pen so my sister tried to get the pen that was by the receipt and she pushed my sisters hand away rudely. My sister then took her card back from her and gave the mother the receipt and the mother ripped up the receipt in front of 10 people that were waiting to be seated then when I gave her my card she snatched it from my hand threw the pen and receipt at me and walked away. If the owner really wants people to return and give him business he needs to realize his parents cannot be working there anymore and disrespecting the people keeping his company in business. He needs to hire people who speak English and are respectful. His parents are running his business...
Read moreGood luck to the gentleman who looked like he was running the restaurant (see feedback at the end). I can't imagine having to run most of the front and back of the restaurant at the same time.
We purchased 4 basic rolls and 1 specialty roll and all were good. Price was fair, rolls were well crafted, and the content quality and quantity of the rolls was appropriate vs. the cost.
Here's what is helpful to know for first-timers but these are largely assumptions based on a single experience: *it felt like restaurants in Asia to me in that I think you are supposed to go in and seat yourself wherever is clear/clean and you should be getting your own drinks/flatware/plates from a nearby counter. Don't expect all-out waiting service. *because of the item above, maybe grab your own menus from the front on your way in *two of the older folks who were there when we went (parents?) don't seem to speak much, if any English (they spoke Chinese). Be patient when asking for things, use gestures, and be understanding when calling in orders. *the gentleman who is making sushi will also take your order when he gets a moment to breathe. Maybe better to explicitly indicate when you're ready to order (like waving at him).
Feedback to who I think is the owner: *season the sushi rice a bit like the Japanese typically do, plain rice was fine but not what we were expecting. If actually was seasoned, do it quite a bit more because we couldn't detect any rice vinegar, salt, and sugar. *You probably don't need someone to tell you this: get someone to help with the customer service side for taking call-in orders, hosting (seating people), and taking orders. You can't do it all! I am guessing you bought that rice sheet machine to save you critical time. *when someone comes in: ask if they have been there before and if not let them know the expectations right away in terms of getting their own menus, plates, drinks, etc... people might feel ignored otherwise since they're usually used to having everything given to them at restaurants. Maybe a freestanding sign at the entrance to the dining area saying how things are run? *I really liked the decor, the people you had helping, and it was clean, including the bathroom...
