It breaks my heart to give them this review because they were my favorite place, but not once, not twice, but THREE times I've ordered from them, PAID, and still watch them sell the items I purchased to another customer in front of me. Yesterday 3/16/24 I once again tried to give them another chance and purchased 2 loafs of green chile bread online and while I was waiting a guy cut in front of me and purchased the last loaf. Before they gave it to him they had a whole conversation about how it had been claimed but they had screwed up because it was supposed to be 2 not one and they checked the vending machine and no that was the last one. As I said, I was standing right there. So I got concerned and started to interject because surely they weren't talking about my oder that I placed over a half an hour ago, but they disregarded me and told me they'd be right with me. They ended up giving the man the last loaf who quickly scurried away and my phone began to ring from them. I tried to get the guys attention that I was standing right there and he continued to ignore me. Finally I was called to the counter to collect my order and they apologized and said they tried to call me but there was an error on their site and they were out of bread for the day and I snapped no I saw the whole thing and I watched them give my bread to another gentleman. The guy then got defensive and said well as I can see they were busy? That the girl didn't see my ticket and I must have ordered at the same time. I then argued no, I had ordered and paid over 45 minutes ago and I witnessed the whole conversation and when I tried to interject I was told to wait my turn. He rolled his eyes and ask what I wanted to do. And I ask if I could at least get my money back.
I understand they're busy but this has happened to me 3 times and they never take accountability and always act like your the problem that they messed up. Besides you can't take people's money and be annoyed that they want it back when you can't provide...
Read moreGolden crown is hands down my favorite pizza place and bakery in town. I always get the create your own pizza with onion, pepperoni, and green chile on the green chile dough. They use the same doughs for their breads and pizzas, as far as I can tell, and they work well for both. However, if your preference is thinner crust pizza, you would be better off ordering one of their sandwiches, for which they use house made baguettes or bread, and obviously fresh ingredients. I also always order their cheesy garlic bread and sometimes like it more than the pizza, depending on my mood.
The biscochitos, again, are my favorite in the city as they are not overly sweet and are on the drier side so pair well with coffee, but that does mean they are not for you if you want something more moist or sweeter. The blue corn and cappuccino biscochitos are absolutely divine. I also very much enjoy their danishes as the filling is a great consistency and the pastry is perfectly layered.
I generally keep a loaf of marble rye and a loaf of honey wheat sliced and frozen to eat as desired, as the bread doesn't have preservatives, so not being able to finish a full loaf within a week or two may result in wastage depending on how you store it. That said, I don't have to freeze the green chile cheddar bread, as it is generally gone in a couple days.
The empanadas are obviously well made, the dough has good flavor for what it is, and I believe use the same filling as the danishes, they just aren't to my personal taste as I believe they might use a whole wheat dough for them, and it's not...
Read moreWhat a charming and unique little place! I am a Canadian visiting Albuquerque and my local friend brought me here. She had been coming for many years and highly recommended it. The place is small yet charming and quaint with very unique decor at a homey atmosphere. The young gentleman at the counter was extremely welcoming and kind to us. He greeted us with a free cookie as it is a policy for them to give kids a free cookie! This made us laugh, but made us feel very well. My friend ordered a personal pizza with a green chilli crust and I had a cinnamon sugar Tostada with a large coffee. When I placed the order, our friend serving us allowed us to see the tostadas being made in the back. So kind of him! The coffee was wonderful and the kind gentleman made it just the way I liked it. The Tostada was something very unique. It was crunchy sweet and a perfect pairing with my coffee . My friend’s pizza looked super delicious. We sat outside for a bit and then came to sit on the inside. Most people around us were families enjoying pizza. They sold entire loaves of bread as well as coffee to take home. They have a unique assortment of treats, including savoury treats, like green chilli and cheese twists. All and all I highly recommend this charming little establishment. I would probably be a regular if I lived in...
