This place is very good. One of the best restaurants in New Mexico honestly. That being said, if they dropped their prices by 20-30% it would probably be more popular. It is tapas sized portions with entree prices. The staff was fantastic and very attentive. The water glasses were always filled and I drink like a camel lost in the Sahara. Destiny is very professional, kind, and a joy to have as a server.
The Alemejas y Mejillones were delicious in the garlic white wine sauce. It needs more bread than two slices in order to sop up that saucy sauce thought. 7.5/10
Patatas Bravas were cooked to perfection with a crispy golden brown outer crust and a light fluffy fleshy interior. However, the tomato based sauce was not viscous enough and left me wanting more flavor. The aoili was fine, but nothing to write home about. Again on the price, $12 dollars is a bit high for this dish. 5.0/10
The Pinchos were quite good. The jamon wrapped around the chicken was not burnt and the chicken itself was not undercooked. I really enjoyed the red pepper squash sauce. I liked this dish, but the chicken could do with a longer marinade time. 7.3/10
The aguacate frito was fantastic. I never knew avocado could be fried so perfectly and paired with a balsamic glaze had me begging for more. 9.4/10
sangria white; good drank 9.0/10
The 2nd street kolsch should be served in a stange, not a dimpled mug. However, the dimpled mug was chilled, so I tried to get off my high beer soaked horse. 8.4/10
Last but not least, the Basque Cheesecake. Stop what you are doing and run for this cheesecake. It is gluten free (for you people with coeliac disease or those who enjoy a fad diet) without a crust, but it is the best cheesecake I have ever eaten. I have had cheesecake in Michelin star restaurants that are not as good as this. the texture is decadent and cakey. The raspberry drizzle is not overly sweet, yet naturally perfect for the palate. The thinly sliced, chilled, single strawberry made each bite light and playful. I would work a week of shifts in the dish pit for this recipe. 9.8/10
I plan to return to try each item on the menu. I just hope the quality to price ratio improves for most...
Read moreWe were extremely excited to try Debajo and the patio seating did not disappoint! Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. We ordered the Patatas Brava, Grilled Ribeye w/Crushed Red Pepper Amber Honey Sauce, and Tapa Traditional. We also ordered 2 items off the Specials menu as well as a glass of Sangria and Iced Tea. The Patatas, Ribeye, and Tapa Traditional came out quickly and we assumed that because our table was small (2 Top), the last 2 items would be brought later when we had more room. The items we had were fine and we ate them happily, but the Patatas resembled hash brown potatoes, the ribeye was more done than advertised, and the Tapas' jamon serrano was a bit dry. We finished our food and the table was cleared, but the remainder of the order was not served. We flagged down an employee (not our waitress) and asked for those dishes, and she went to check on it. Our original waitress came back and told us that the kitchen ran out of the specials. She admitted that she should have asked the kitchen when the order was placed, but neglected to do so as well as inform us. We decided not to order anything else and then asked for our check. When our waitress did not return, we took our check to the bar and was told by someone who I assume was the Manager that they comped the Sangria. It was unexpected, very nice, and we left. Our total bill was approximately $49 for 3 tapas and iced tea. The portions, of course, were small as they are tapas, but as we didn't get our entire order, we were still hungry. Fortunately we found another restaurant down the street and our night ended well. Unfortunately our experience did not live up to our expectations of Debajo. The ambiance was most definitely inviting and the sangria was one of the best I've had, but the food and service was not what...
Read moreYou’ll find the most expensive unsweetened tea here. One glass is five dollars… including refills for all you parched foodies. The service is quite the show! You will never know which server is truly your sever. Like as though they encourage teamwork but continuously fall short. So when asking for more water or bread- if you ask the wrong server who happened to show up at some point throughout the duration of your experience - NO BREAD for you! We failed - four times. We could not figure out who we needed to ask. A ring around the servers game - “E for everyone.” The salmon special was a great value and delicious. The De Vaca was around 28 and not worth the price. It came with no side. It’s tasty but also takes forty minutes to come out. Fam, this means you get to watch your fellow foodies munch away while your belly rumbles and the taste of your tears keep you from asking for a bite. My guests were finished with their meal and I was still waiting on my four orders of bread from the four servers whom visited and the steak. The Patatas potatoes was extremely over priced. The sauces did not pair well with the food. I would come here again - to place a to go order for the salmon.
