A cute, inviting space with indoor and outdoor seating under a covered patio. SSC has counter-booth seating, large booths, tables, and outdoor seating on a covered patio. There’s street parking available that’s free on the weekends. I was visiting SSC for brunch on a Saturday and found street parking right out front, and was sat immediately without a wait. SSC offers iced coffee, which is nice as some brunch spots don’t. The service was friendly and checked on us through the meal. I had SSC’s fried egg sandwich for $13, which comes with white cheddar, applewood smoked bacon, and a fried egg over-hard on ciabatta. I added green chile to the sandwich. White cheddar hash browns come with the meal on the side. The sandwich was good, and I enjoyed the heat of the chile and the crispy bacon. Unfortunately the hash browns were so salty I almost couldn’t eat them. Since I had the hash browns first, the sandwich initially didn’t seem to have much taste compared to the salt bomb I just finished. I’m glad that dissipated and I ended up enjoying the sandwich. I like SSC’s environment, service, and vibe. I also enjoyed the sandwich. I’m hoping the hash browns were a one-off, because I’m interested in trying SSC again at some point.

The only thing saving me from giving this place one star was a previously good experience here. Went in on a Sunday for brunch, and while it was 1, I was surprised that they were out of almost everything. No Dutch Pancakes, no fig sticky buns, no specials etc. We waited 10+ minutes before we were even given water. As a server, I try to have as much grace as possible. But our server was awful. Bad Attitude, rude and inattentive. When we finally received our meals, our burger and steak were over cooked (both were supposed to be medium rare.) Apple fritters were dry and tasteless. For the prices they charge, please make it worth your customers while.

An absolute gem! First time I’ve been here and it was amazing! The host and servers were in great communication together! The food both looked and tasted delicious. The pomegranate mimosa was just the right amount of dry and sweet. I was skeptical that the grits and shrimp was going to be either to hard or to overcooked. Absolutely not the case! The grits were cheesy and savory the shrimp was cooked to perfection. Followed by a lemon blueberry cupcake that was dense and nicely sweet. Our server was so kind and attentive! Will return for sure!

I'm not one for leaving reviews unless service is REALLY bad or REALLY good (I should probably take more time to do so). My wife and I were told about Slate Street Cafe and we weren't disappointed. We went there with our best friends and couldn't have had a better time. I'm VERY picky about food and the burger I had there was the best burger I've ever had; I wish I remembered which one so I could have it again when I go back. Great food. Great service. Polite staff. We'll be back! Updated 2/10/19: My wife and I went back again this past week and were surprised to find only a few other people in the restaurant! Had the Slate Street Burger again--so did my wife--and it was just what I remembered it to be! THE BEST BURGER IN TOWN (but you have to get it with ALL of the extras)! This cafe has a ritzy, high-end vibe, but prices are very down-to-earth. Update on 2/29: My wife and I recently made another visit to Slate Street; it has become one of our favorites. Upon being seated, we were informed from our host that Slate Street no longer honors the gift cards we had brought in. Since we live in far Rio Rancho, we couldn't have been more disappointed. As a small business owner myself, I understand companies that don't wish to include themselves in various promotional offers that they once thought a good business investment (think, "Groupon," perhaps). But, when a company buys into a gift card and their name is specifically mentioned on the back of the card that I've owned for a year or so (unsure of where I got it) and then decides not to honor their cards any longer, I guess that really sits poorly with me. Great food and good prices, but I won't likely be back. That was...

The only reason I give it 4 stars, I wanted a steak and they were out of steak, 😞. But truly this is a five star, I had the best most tender pork chop I've ever eaten. The rest of the party really enjoyed their food, except my wife, she had the green chile burger and said it was bland, she said she couldn't taste the patty, but it looked pretty good. The service was great and the atmosphere was also great. Pro tip, park at wecks, since they're closed it makes it easier to get in and out. Ok, you are right, I apologize. This is actually a review for another restaurant and I wasn't paying attention. Here's my review for Slate Street... The food and service was awesome, I had the Cobb salad and it was fantastic, I really enjoyed it. My parents and I visited after an appointment and were celebrating some good news. My Mom had a veggie burger with fries and my Dad had some chicken strips. Let's talk about the fries, they were sooo good, I'm not a fry guy but these ones were fantastic. I had a bite of my Mom's veggie burger and hands down, was a really good sandwich, I would never order it on my own but after tasting it, I'd order it and twice on Sunday. The sandwich was not lacking in flavor or texture, loved it. Highly recommend this restaurant. Thanks and sorry for...

This was our first time coming here. When we arrived there was 2 parties before us. We had a party of 6. We were told that our wait would be 20-30 mins because the kitchen was backed up. Cool, we waited. As we waited MANY people arrived and were sat before us. At least 5 parties of 2 to 4 people. So I checked on this, I asked why all these other people were being sat before us when we had been waiting for 30+ mins already. They said the kitchen couldn't take a large party's orders at that time...what is the difference if they had 10 to 20 separate orders than 6??? Because they're on different tables? Either way, we waited and were sat only to have to wait another 45 mins for our food. While the young lady at the door was very sweet and understanding, the rest of the staff was just OK. Waited a long time just for drinks and some things never came. Our waitress was nice but was very shy or maybe new?? Food was just ok... would have loved to try it again on a not so busy day but unfortunately customer service was not so good. We are pretty patient people and even if we were sat and had a longer wait on food it would have been better than seeing other people show up after us to get immediate service while we stood outside...
