Monte Carlo Liquors & Steak House — Restaurant in Albuquerque

A classic dive with a bar and lots of beef on the menu. When you go in you have to give your eyes time to adjust. This is a local joint that I grew up eating at, so it pains me to give it anything less than a 5. The service is great. The food is good but I feel the actual steaks have dipped in quality.

When you order a steak, you might find that it tastes a little funny and the size of the meat feels underwhelming. I dont remember the steaks being this thin before, I understand beef is expensive and times are tough for small businesses. But passing on the burden to the consumer will be noticed. That being said they have managed to keep their pricing fair.

I think the best bang for your buck on the menu right now is the steak fingers. I do wish they put a two or three more on the plate but again, price of beef is high and I don't blame them.

I do notice that everything is subject to strict portioning, which is common for small restuarants struggling to stay in the black. I believe in this restuarant however, and I will be happy to see them improve and reintroduce the quality they are known for.

Now don't mistake this for being a bad review, my criticism comes from love and being very honest. Nothing is stopping me from recommending this place, if dive joints are your thing and you want a good steak and a beer this is the place to go. I hope the community keeps supporting this place because I know they can do great things. Right now the restuarant is good. Really good. But I've seen it when it was GREAT and I want to experience that again.

If you live on the Westside this is a must go place. This is the steak house you go to. Is it worth traveling for? Absolutely. I'd say if you find yourself in town from a further town you should definitely drop by. I would travel from as far away as Los Lunas or Belen to eat here, I do think it's worth that trip.

I gotta say, they always have really pretty waitresses there too. Roughly my age. So that's a bonus too ;)

A prior post said "Don't let the outside fool you" and that the restaurant looks rough, but the food and service were excellent. This encouraged us to give the restaurant a try. My steak was excellent, as was the service, but we had a rough start. Dirty understates the condition of our table. Bus staff should not have released the table for us to be seated. The hostess should not have seated us, rather she should have appologized and asked us to wait while the table was properly cleaned. There was not just a little debris under our table, there was a lot. There was a sqeezed lemon wedge, the equivalent of 2-3 soda crackers crumbled on the floor, a full napkin, pieces of other napkins and multiple straw wrappers. The crack at the back of the booth seat had an acceptable amount of debris from the day. There was build-up on the table such that, when I scratched my nail across the sticky table, it left a light mark where build-up had been scuffed, and black gunk under my nails. This is inappropriate in a normal day, during covid, this is a total lack of care for customer safety. Staff responded graciously to our request to clean the floor and stated that this was becoming more and more common. It appears as though management and ownership are out of touch with the current lack of sanitary standards. My desire is to post althis and give them the opportunity to correct the current deficiencies, other tables experienced similar environments at their tables. Ownership has a great product. I've ate ther for years. Never in my like have I felt so disrespected at a restaurant. My wife and I went to eat lunch there Friday at 11. When we arrived there were 2 bigger tables that were appeared to be having a company gathering. My wife and I ordered a cocktail and it took a while to get it and for them to even take our order, which is understandable because she had been taking orders for the bigger table. I was fine until a different group of 2 came in 15 minutes after us and got their food first. I asked the waitress, because the table was right next to us, is our food coming out soon. She looked at me and said when its cooked it will be out. I advised her that table came in after us, and she told me where there food cooks faster. All my wife and I order was burgers, which it looked liked that table ordered. I told her that I was disappointed that she hasn't even checked on us to see if we needed anything. She threw her hands up me with sarcasm and asked if I needed anything. I felt so small and very disrespected. It was unbelievable. I asked for the Manger Donna and at first she was being defensive for her stating we are busy. I told her I understand, but being disrespectful to customers is not acceptable. Was there an hour waiting for a 2 burgers. I just can not believe their service. I just left once they brought it. I waited just to see how long it would take for 2 burgers....
