We came here on Father's Day evening, so it was probably a pretty busy night. The servers were clearly spread rather thin. It may have been a bit of an off night, because parts of our experience were good, but other parts not so much.
We'll start with the good. The Savoy is an upscale restaurant and definitely looks the part. It's a beautiful space, though the side room we were sat in isn't quite as pretty as the main dining room. The prices are also very upscale, though I wouldn't say the service matches the level I would expect for what our final bill was.
The servers are very nice, and were attentive when they were available. But again, perhaps because of Father's Day, they were spread thin and there were times when we couldn't find one. But the person who took our order was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu.
Some of the food we got was great. My wife got the salad with steak, and one of my sons got the lamb shank, and they both loved their meals. My other son got the tuna, and while he loved the meat and seaweed salad, the wasabi mashed potatoes missed the mark. We all found that spicy taste in the mashed potatoes off putting.
I got the prime rib, and while my mashed potatoes were delicious, the crust of the meat was inedibly salty. Like pure salt. I'm not sure what happened, like if it was supposed to be rubbed off or what, but I couldn't eat the outer centimeter of the meat. And if any of the edge touched something else that also became unbelievably salty. In the middle of the meat it was tender and juicy, and I didn't have any complaints, but that first bite of the crust which should have been delicious really threw off my pallet for the rest of the meal. The crusty edge bits are usually some of my favorite.
The table got the bok choy and the collard greens to share. I enjoyed the collard greens, and the table liked the mushrooms that came with the bok choy, but the bok choy itself was pretty plain. My wife and I both ordered wine and those were great.
The lamb shank took much longer than the other food to come out, maybe 10 minutes, which was a little bit frustrating. It made me wonder if they accidentally took his to another table and had to wait for another one to come out.
I've come in the past, ordering and loving the osso buco. Though I don't remember too much more than the picture I took.
Our final bill came to over $250 for the four of us after tip and tax which feels quite high for a mixed experience with the food. Overall, the atmosphere is very nice, as are the servers, but the food missed the mark this time. I'd give it another shot, but it's quite expensive so I might be more inclined to try...
Read moreFour of us had dinner at SAVOY BAR & GRILL to celebrate a Bon Voyage occasion, and while the service was outstanding, the food was mediocre and the prices high. We started by sharing 2 appetizers: the crab cakes and the ahi tuna appetizer. The crab cakes were good although a bit dry, while the ahi tuna was outstanding! Then we took advantage of their discount “Sunset Prix Fixe Menu” (offered between 5:00 pm to 6:30pm), and enjoyed several good servings. Our first courses consisted of the Autumn Squash Bisque (really delicious), the Caesar Salad (surprisingly bland), the House Greens Salad (nothing special), and a new Apple-Brussels Sprout-Blue Cheese salad (super yummy). For entrees, we ordered the Cedar Plank Salmon (delicious), the Parmesan Crusted Chicken Carbonara (the pasta and sauce were good, but the chicken was tough and salty), the Prosciutto-Wrapped Scallops (Really Fantastic!), and the Prime Rib (unpleasantly half meat, half fatty gristle). For desserts, we had two of the Pistachio-Cherry Ice Cream Dacquoise (delicious), the Queen Bee (FANTASTIC!), and the Pumpkin-Maple Pecan Pie (served frozen solid, so we had to wait till it thawed). On the other hand, service was outstanding! Our server Danial H. was super attentive and responded immediately to our requests, even anticipating refills for our wines. It was a “good” dinner, but the so-so quality of food was not worth the high prices. Ambience is upscale and beautiful – several companies were having their staff Christmas party dinners here tonight. Nice wine and cocktail selections. This place is great for making an impression, but don’t go...
Read moreWe decided to try somewhere new and came last night for my birthday dinner, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. To start, the calamari we ordered was cold. It was also quite tasteless.
Moving on to the main course, the prime rib that we ordered was almost inedible. It tasted like it had been doused in salt, making it extremely unpleasant to eat.
We also ordered the salmon, which turned out to be dry and overcooked. It was difficult to enjoy the meal when the fish was so tough and lacked any moisture. The rice that came with the dish was burnt and had a bitter taste, further adding to our disappointment.
Our steak, which we ordered medium, was also overcooked, resulting in a chewy texture and a lack of tenderness. There was hardly any pink in the meat.
To top it off, our server was not friendly and seemed to be annoyed by our presence. He did not smile once at us, and overall just seemed grumpy. Maybe it was just a bad day, who knows.
2 stars given because the soup of the day and Caesar salad was delicious. The server did make sure our waters were always filled and food came in a timely manner.
Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was of poor quality, and the service left a lot to be desired. It was a disappointing experience, and we will not...
