I was looking at my original review of this restaurant and decided to give it another try. Perhaps I had been too critical on my first visit and needed to take another look.
My first impression of the restaurant is that it's clean, it's well-maintained, and the people at the counter were just a joy to interact with. The young lady who took my order was particularly pleasant. Nothing but smiles and happy comments.
One disappointing thing was that they were out of bacon, but I don't really think that detracted much from the overall meal. And hey, restaurants run out of things. That just happens in the restaurant industry, especially if you're trying to keep ingredients fresh.
Then, I came to the soda fountain. And I was pleasantly surprised to find Zuberfizz sodas in the fountain. This totally makes sense, considering they're both Durango based companies, but Zuberfizz is my flat-out favorite root beer. Every time I go to Durango, I buy a case of it and bring it back here. I was pretty skeptical about how Zuberfizz from the fountain with taste, but it was fantastic. I just loved it!
The food came pretty quickly, and it was pretty good. See photos. The hamburgers were a little bit dry. I think that's part of what you get from grass-fed beef, less fat, less juicy, but all in all these had a good flavor and it was well-cooked. The burgers were dressed really well also, meaning that the lettuce tomatoes and pickles were all fresh, well-placed, and there was a decent amount food on the burger.
I made sure to get some of the french fries and some of the sweet potato fries. I'm not really a fan oh sweet potato fries, but these were pretty good. Both the potato and the sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were well seasoned and I enjoyed eating them, although I wouldn't order the sweet potato fries for myself again. If you like sweet potato fries, you will like these.
You need to bus your own table when you're finished with your meal. That's part of the deal here, and it's clearly posted on the table. See the photo attached.
Might take is that this is a pretty good hamburger. It is a bit pricey, and grass-fed hamburgers are not a big deal to me. If it's a big deal to you, this place is right up your alley! If you want grassfed beef, on your hamburger, this is the place to go.
One of the most impressive things about the restaurant for me was their sign saying that if you weren't satisfied with the food please bring it to their attention, see the photo attached. I really like a restaurant that's willing to stand up for their product and make the customer happy.
So, all in all I was pleased. I think I underrated this restaurant the last time I was here and I'm going to change from three stars to four stars.
I'll leave my original review below, but as I said, I think I was too harsh in my first review.
Four stars on this hamburger!
(Three stars) The food is good, but it's really pricey. I can't tell the difference between this and any other hamburger. So, I'll spend less money somewhere else.
If you're thing is grass-fed beef hamburgers, then this is the...
Read moreWent there Saturday evening for the first time to get an order to go for the family. It was only about half full. I ordered the cheddar burger everything, cheddar burger plain, and they got those two right. Also ordered the green chili Jack burger add grilled onions no raw onions. This one, as I predicted, caused confusion and so I got both raw and grilled onions. Fourth was a regular burger no onions. And guess what. Lots of onions. For an adult, that's no big deal. You just take them off and eat away. But for a little boy, having a dog lick his burger would have been preferable to nasty onions anywhere near his food. And last was two orders of fries.
The wait wasn't too bad, but comparable burger joints can do it faster, AND get your order better than 50% accurate. Upon arriving home, and after my wife discovering she'd been double onioned, and after finally convincing my son that the onions weren't placed there by Satan, and had not contaminated his entire burger, I got to have a bite of my grass burger. The patty was good. The bun was good. The pickles were good. The tomato was good. But there was this other stuff I'm not sure about. There was a green lettuce-like material that could have been the old, wilted, flimsy, really tough part of the plant that I always throw away. Or it could have been some green pieces of rubber that found their way into my food. I don't eat that stuff. And then there were these onion-like things. Three or four little white rubbery rings that could have been onions a day or two ago when they were sliced, or perhaps dug from garbage dumpster of the restaurant next door. I don't like those things on my $8 hamburgers. I don't care if the cows eat grass, our even if they smoke it, it wasn't enough to salvage my dinner. And then there were the fries. Nearly $6 for a couple hands full of these limp, greasy things, slightly bigger than shoestring potato cuts, but smaller than McDonald's. Little fries should be crunchy. Big fries can be limp. But little limp fries suck. All in all the experience was not good. I won't go back. There are much better burgers to be had here for this price. I would attribute the restaurants performance %100 to bad management by the owners. Good beef won't save you if everything else is bad. Oh! I almost forgot the outrageous claims about grass fed beef made on their web site:
"Grass-fed beef helps lower the risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, ADHD, depression, dementia and Alzheimers."
What did I just read?
No, no. God, no, please don't tell me I share this planet with people who believe...
Read moreThis is an interesting place. I've been enjoying their food for quite a while now. While They are not from the Albuquerque area, they have fit into the place nicely. My wife has celiac disease, and because of this we are very limited in the places that we can go out to eat. One of the hardest things is finding a good restaurant that will also accommodate a true allergy need.
Grassburger, is truly one of the few places where we both like to go on a reasonable price and get very good food. They have quite a number of things but obviously they are most well known for their burgers. Is there grass fed beef. I will say it is pretty good. It's actually one of the better burgers in the Albuquerque area just in terms of meat. They've got a decent selection of toppings though, you're fairly limited to a basic single or double burger with or without cheese or bacon. It comes with the standard few toppings on a burger and you can add a few more specialty things especially the local favorite of Green Chile. Fairly well done, which is unfortunate because I prefer a much more juicy burger with a lot of pink in the middle. Oh well, to each their own.
They also offer a taco plate which is fairly good, but I've only had it once and can't speak to its longevity. They also have a hot dog with you can get it, but I thought it fell flat especially when compared to the quality of their burger offerings.
I did once, and only once, order their chicken burger. I expected it to be a slave chicken is a single piece. No, it was multiple. Chunked chicken pieces Sitting around not doing a whole lot. It was fairly Bland, unremarkable all, and not something that I would recommend anybody to order.
They do make very good french fries, I'm not a fan of sweet potato fries but I can tell they're very good. In the same way, their regular french fries are very good. I like them thin and crunchy and that's usually what I get here.
The service at the restaurant, is pretty good. Though, the service does vary between who is on during the day. Sometimes it seems like the entire restaurant is run by a lot of young children's and very often get orders wrong. However, they are very quick to fix the problems and get you what you need.
All in all, if you're looking for a good burger go here. You're certainly better off here than most any other place...
