I should've listened to my gut instinct about this place and not ordered from here, but unfortunately, I did. And here we are. Now, the question I should've asked myself before ordering, is "How bad can a pizza place, with the word pizza in its name, screw up a pizza?" And after getting one delivered to me today, I know the answer to that: "Ask Bugsy's, only they know how to achieve that magnanimous feat". Honestly, both our entrees today were very disappointing. We ordered via GrubHub, and it's only a 25 minutes drive from Alexandria to our place, so I have no idea why the pizza was chewy and the cheese was rubbery when the pizza was delivered to us. It shouldn't have happened, but somehow that's what we got. Plus, the cheese on the quattro formaggi had a funky taste and texture to it, almost like you might expect from cheese from a can, and there was very little mozzarella on it! It's crazy that we might've had a better experience picking up a frozen pizza from a grocery store and heating it up at home, that's how disappointing this pizza was. Coming to the second entree: the good part was that they followed my instructions to replace spaghetti with penne, but that's about it. The marinara was very watered down and tart, with no hint of spice to it. And there was only one chicken cutlet, as compared to all the other local restaurants that give 2 chicken cutlets, so the value for money here isn't as good as other restaurants either.

I have been to Bugsy's twice now and both times I had a true deep dish pizza. Now don't get this confused with that big pizza joint's pan pizza that you and I grew up with. This pizza is over an inch thick and that's with tons of cheese and toppings weighing it down! The crust is cooked through perfectly, neither doughy nor overly crunchy, and has a good taste and even texture throughout. I recommend the Bay pizza (shrimp is different, but really tasty!) and they will happily bring you some Old Bay seasoning (trust me, you want this flavor combination) to add at the table if you ask. I saw people next to me getting burgers and out comes a huge plate of fries as your included side, so the portions seem generous for other dishes too! The atmosphere is rustic and homey with exposed wooden beams, a decorative fireplace, and other decor on the walls. The temperature was warm and comfortable in winter, so nobody around me was wearing their coat unlike some more typical chain restaurants. Service was friendly, timely, and I had a great meal. The only downside was that fountain drinks are packed with ice and you only get two free refills, which is pretty stingy for $3.25. I deducted a star here from an otherwise excellent experience, but if you want a great pizza from a small local restaurant, I really recommend Bugsy's!

We were cycling in Alexandria on one of the hottest days of the year. Desperate to find a place to escape the heat and replenish. We walked into Bugsy’s by chance and we’re extremely grateful for their aircon and homely atmosphere. It almost felt like walking in to a British Pub. As vegans we weren’t expecting many options for us, as we usually have to do research to find suitable places, but we were not researching this day. Fortunately, given that it was so hot we were amenable to salad. My husband ordered the house salad and it was delicious! Not just a boring lettuce and tomato salad. We’re always grateful when places make more effort with their salad and this was so good. I ordered a thin crust Mediterranean pizza without the cheese (they don’t do vegan cheese) and not only was it delicious they were so generous with the toppings. Accompanied with a couple of beers, this a lucky, random choice for us. We would return for sure! P.S you can build your own pizza which is always useful for us vegans!

Bugsby Pizza in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, offers a delightful dining experience that pizza aficionados will surely appreciate. The brick oven pizza here is nothing short of delicious, delivering on both taste and texture. My dining partner and I opted for a large pizza, which proved to be so generous in size that we could only manage two slices each. Based on this, I'd suggest a medium pizza for parties of two unless you're planning on leftovers. The portion sizes are indeed hefty, ensuring you get great value for your money.

The ambiance of Bugsby Pizza has a charming, vintage feel, reminiscent of classic old pizza spots. This aesthetic adds an authentic touch to the dining experience, making it all the more memorable. Customer service at Bugsby is commendable, with staff going out of their way to ensure a pleasant visit. Additionally, parking is conveniently located around the corner in a garage, alleviating any potential stress related to finding a spot.

Pricing is reasonable, making this spot an affordable option for those seeking quality pizza without breaking the bank. The taste of the pizza is exceptional, with flavors that are sure to satisfy. Given the combination of delicious food, great service, and inviting atmosphere, I highly recommend Bugsby Pizza to anyone looking for a top-notch pizza experience in Old...
