Read moreThe cashier was friendly and that's where the positive review ends. When I arrived, there were four women waiting for their candy drinks to be made, one at a time, by one guy. I ordered a cold brew to go and the guy behind me ordered a medium roast. I expected the cashier who took our orders would quickly pour our drinks so we could be on our way. Instead, we had to wait for this guy to finish making these mocha-frappa-whatevers. This took 15 minutes on top of how ever long he was working on them before we walked in. When I finally got my coffee, it had milk in it. I told him I didn't ask for milk and he said that's how they do it there. I'm told that if I want it without milk, I have to ask. I have to ask you NOT to put milk in a cup of coffee? Got it. Completely bass ackwards from every coffee shop everywhere else around the country.
He quickly made me a new one and informed me next time to let them know not to put milk in the coffee.
No worries. After tasting it, there won't be a next time. A cold brew shouldn't be so bitter. I wouldn't surprised if this was just refrigerated drip coffee. Really disappointing since I expected much better based on the reviews. I'm guessing people in Alexandria don't go very far from home.
Pros: Nice cashier
Cons: Dirty bathroom Overpriced, poor quality coffee Suspicious "cold brew" Very slow...
Read moreI have visited this coffee shop since it was The House of Java about 2 decades ago. It is a landmark in Cenla. The owner, Amanda, is so friendly and lovely, and all staff has always been amazing and personable. The vibe here is family- friendly, laid back, and it is quiet enough for a long study sesh. The food is always good, and they make an amazing cuppa! Try the London Fog and a warm croissant, sit back, open up your book, and relax. You'll easily lose time, and no one will pester you to rush off. I am so thankful for the times Tamp was there when I needed to study and had no sitter, so I brought my kids, and they played board games and had snacks and drinks. I have had long nights, where I sat for HOURS without speaking to anyone, pouring over my books and screens, and it was never an issue. I have set up my business there in years past, with permission, as a sort of pop-up. I have had multiple hours long group get-togethers, and all day solo study times. I have had lazy Saturday mornings with my kids. I have visited after getting married, and during every festival. I sat outside at the tables with friends as a teen and had coffee and tea, and now my own teens love it here.
Guve them a visit and you...
