I always tell people i heard about this place from someone i don't particularly like when i brought donuts to work and he told me they weren't as good as Max's. And though i loath this person, they were 100% right. Max's has the best donuts I've ever had! Everything is killer and made to perfection and extremely affordable. I dont think ive ever spent more that $10 here and walked out with enough donuts to feed an army. The dough is a perfect soft texture and the icing is deliciously potent. This place is for people with a serious sweet tooth, the icing is very sweet, probably too sweet for the feint of heart. The classic chocolate glazed donut is my personal favorite. Im big on fitness and nutrition but i get one meal per week where i get to eat whatever i want this place is my weekly cheat day dessert often. If i can be a tad critical here let me touch on the few downsides. The only donut i dont care for is the strawberry glazed, something is off about the glaze, so if management wants to step their game up this is really the only item that can be improved. As many reviewers have said the line can get a little long but it goes quick. The bad part is that they close early and often sell out of everything but glaze and chocolate glaze by probably 10-11am. This is no big deal for me since choc glaze is my go to, some people have an issue with this but your gotta realize this place is legit and you gotta be there early or you miss out. On your next visit sit in the parking lot a few minutes before you go in and you'll notice the common theme of fiendish urgency in the pace and manner of their patrons. People don't wast time parking and speed walking a bee line to the entrance because they know this place is killer and WILL SELLOUT. Get in there donut lovers, this...
Read moreMax's Donuts has been a weekly stop (1-2 X per week) for me for the last 3 yrs. However, since the ownership changed earlier this year I have noticed a reduction in quality of product and today, customer service. Max's has a minimum credit card purchase policy of $4.50, which is understandable due to credit card fees to the business. However, in past visits, if I happen to fall a few cents short and didn't have cash on me, they would normally say "don't worry about it" because I was a repeat customer for myself and would occasionally by large quantities for my company meetings. Today was different..... My bill was for $4.24 and I didn't have any cash on me. I would've been happy to buy another donut but the young man behind the register just pointed at the sign and said "the minimum for credit card is $4.50". I told him I was a repeat customer and he just stared at me. I said "you are going to lose my business over .26 cents?" He just replied "Sorry sir"... So I left. Being a regional manager over several retail outlets, I understand policy but you are throwing money away by not recognizing repeat customers and seeing the bigger picture. Sadly I will not be back. I'm sure they can do without my business but with this attitude they are going to have more and more customers going to their competitors. The product is NOT heads and shoulders above their competitors as it once was with the former ownership, so I'm not really missing anything by making this decision. It's sad to see what used to be a wonderful business turn into just a mediocre donut shop. Hopefully the new ownership will re-evaluate how they are running their business and better train...
Read moreMax's is very easily the best donuts I have ever had. In fact, if I am going to be buying donuts, I refuse to get them from anywhere else after trying Max's for the first time about 10 years ago.
They are normal donuts, not like the tricked up ones you get at Hurts or Voodoo (both great places!). They have classics like Glazed, Chocolate, Cake, etc. And they do each of these MUCH BETTER than any other donut shop! Each donut is big, soft, and so sweet and tasty. They glaze all of the donuts all around, not just the top of the donut. So, when you get a chocolate, the bottom will have a normal glaze, and the top will have the chocolate icing. This makes a HUGE difference between Max's and other donut shops.
Also, they have the best Little Smokies (some people wrongly call these Kolaches) you can get anywhere! The sausage is fantastic, and the bread around it is soft and yummy.
They are also FAST! there is often a big line, but no matter how long it gets, I've never waited much more than 10 minutes to order and get my food! They have a great staff that knows how to get the job done correctly, and efficiently.
Lastly, their prices are great! They don't cost much more than any other place, and probably cost less than many! Even if they were expensive (which they aren't!) it would be worth it! Go give Max's a try right now if you want to eat the best donuts that...
