This was my Mom and Iâs first time being here. We looked up on Google and decided that it had decent reviews and pictures to give it a shot. We were debating whether to go to Cracker Barrel because we know exactly what the quality for the value of the meal we are going to receive. Instead we took a risk to try a new place to see if we can find a more quality breakfast place to frequently visit. Unfortunately, it didnât even meet the expectations of Cracker Barrel. Which unfortunately is saying a lot. I wanted to so badly like it, but the food was a big miss. It all LOOKS great and you get a lot of bread food, but itâs overall the cheapest quality of food Iâve had in a long time. The service and ambiance were amazing , but it didnât make up for the food or value.
The Good:
A Blueberry Pancake - 5/5 - the blueberries were fresh and the pancake was amazing
A Biscuit - 3/5 - a huge biscuit that was crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside
Scrambled âEggsâ (they donât taste or look real) - 3/5 - Iâm pretty sure the eggs were some sort of premix, but they were cooked well.
1 Orange Juice - 5/5 - amazing! freshly squeezed and sweet
Grits - 3/5- flavorful
The Really Bad
French Toast - 1/5 - I started eating it and couldnât tell why it had a bad taste. It also was undercooked, but I was so hungry I powered through it a few more bites until I couldnât take it anymore. I then turned over a piece and realized all of it was burnt. It was terrible. I felt duped! Not to mention, the French toast was almost completely cold. The crazy part is the fact even Cracker Barrrel has better tasting, cooked, and hot French toast than this place.
A side of 5 Pieces of Bacon - 1/5 - The cheapest, thinnest, fattiest bacon Iâve ever put in my mouth. If you slapped all 5 pieces together it might equal one thick cut piece of bacon. Might! The crazy part is the fact even Cracker Barrrel has better bacon than this place.
Tomatoes - 2/5 - I can find more red and ripe tomatoes at Publix than what we were served here. They were firm but completely unripe
Potatoes - 1/5 - I canât be for certain, but again, they tasted like they were the cheapest previously frozen potatoes ever. The crazy part is the fact even Cracker Barrrel has better potatoes and hash browns than this place.
Butter - 1/5 - good butter, but rock hard. Completely unusable on any of the food. The crazy part is the fact even Cracker Barrrel has better tasting and soft butter than this place.
Syrup - 1/5 - the cheapest tasting, canât be sure if itâs ârealâ, syrup, but it certainly does not taste like it. Itâs in a cold bottle, already sitting on the table, with no label. The crazy part is the fact even Cracker Barrrel has better âhalf corn syrupâ,fresh, and hot syrup than this place.
Grape Jelly - 1/5 - the cheapest jelly you can put on the table, Smuckers. The crazy part is the fact even Cracker Barrrel has better jelly than this. Crazy!
Ketchup - 1/5 - again the ketchup was the cheapest ketchup to put in my mouth. Pretty much every single fast food, restaurant, and hole in the wall place has better ketchup than this place. Itâs some weird tasting ketchup that says on the completely red bottle itâs named âFancy Ketchupâ. Nothing fancy about it.
Maybe Iâd give it a shot again to try a waffle, but I definitely wouldnât ever plan a breakfast...
Read moreHave wanted to try this restaurant for a while but itâs always really busy on weekends. Decided to go on a Friday for brunch when there wasnât a wait. The hostess really didnât great us and just said âtwo?â We were seated and waited about 5 minutes before our server named Jessica came to the table. She was friendly but didnât really tell us about the menu or ask if we had any questions about the menu. We ordered bloody Maryâs with a water and our food at the same time since they appeared to be a little busier than we thought. Our food came out in about 10-15 minutes but still no bloodyâs.
Side note, my gf asked for poached eggs medium, what she got was fried and they were runny. Jessica apologized and offered have it remade but we werenât wanting to wait to have it remade. I ordered the breakfast burrito which was pretty good and had good flavor but the tortilla was kinda greasy on the bottom and part of it was hard, like it was microwaved. Also the breakfast potatoes were kinda like little potatoes wedges that had no flavor and were kinda soft, not really crunchy.
Anyway, Jessica said the drinks will be out shortly but 15 minutes later, we still have no drinks. She also never came back to update us on the drinks or top off the waters that we still had from when we sat down. I had to get her attention when she was walking past and asked her to cancel the drinks since it had been 25 minutes since we had ordered them and never received them. I also asked if she would refill our water and she just said, âok" but didn't even mention the missing drinks and walked but never came back with the water refills. We also had to flag her down for our check. Iâm not trying to pick out every mistake or issue a place makes but it was just an overall disappointing experience at what appears to be a popular restaurant. I will probably try them again and hope that everything goes better but I wouldnât wait for more then 10-15 minutes to get a table based...
Read moreI did take out.. as a first time customer I'll say I was really upset that after spending nearly $50 for one plate, appetizer and side items. The food could have been 5 â had our entree been served fresh but unfortunately the fries were old and heated up not freshly dropped and we ordered a double serving of fries.
Look, I've worked in a restaurant once and it is truly not going out your way to give your customers EXACTLY what they paid for and you as a customer did not pay pennies if you look at the menu the entree comes with two sides so we requested a double order of fries as my disabled young adult is a picky eater but a hearty appetite which is perfect because of past issues.
To "The Southern Porch" and any restaurant to purposely give you old food ALTHOUGH the menu presents the food as fresh and the price reflects this as well .. guess what ? This is what is supposed to be received by the customer (me) or else you notify the customer you do not have fresh fries. I expect something like this at McDonald's when you have to sometimes say "Fries Dropped Fresh" at the drive thru window đ
Fried Green tomatoes were very tasty and made fresh (Why I rated 2 Stars) and the other food items I ordered I knew were heated up as well but you expect that with grits.
Do better "The Southern Porch" as I am positive you wouldn't have done that to a customer eating in because it would have been sent...
