Went on a Wednesday night with 3 friends. Parking is limited so I had to park about 5 minutes away, but it wasn’t a bad walk. The view from the restaurant overlooks downtown Alpharetta. It’s October so it was a little cool as the sunset, but got to sit on the couches near the fireplace. Overall the atmosphere was beautiful.
Our server was nice, and she spoke as if she’d been working there a while, but as the night progressed I felt maybe she was actually new. I ordered a Malbec, she brought everyone’s drinks and told me they don’t have a Malbec, and offered me red blend as the closest option. I asked about a Merlot and my friend, who didn’t hear the conversation prior, suggested the Malbec from the menu. To which our server agreed…”but that’s what I ordered”. So our server said they changed the menu and she’d go double check for me. She came back and said they do have a Malbec and offered me a sample. Ok cool, just a misunderstanding.
Appetizers, we got deviled eggs and the brussel sprouts. You get 4 so we had in each. They are different kinds so you have a variety. Mine had a small pickle slice that enhanced the flavor. It was good. One have what looked like caviar on it, one was just paprika, and the other had something else on it (maybe a piece of tomato?). The brussel sprouts were good but they were heavy handed with the sauce. Sometimes you got a bite of a nice brussel sprout and sauce mix and other times just a glob of sauce on wilted brussel sprouts.
We asked what was her favorite on the menu in terms of entrees. She told us the burger was the most popular item and that the news even did a segment about it. So two of us got the burger, one friend got the lamb sliders, and the other got the cod. The sliders and cod came out first. My friend enjoyed the cod, but my other friend said the lamb tasted as if it was cut with beef (which she doesn’t eat). We were assured it was just straight lamb, but they made her something else anyway. The burgers came and I thought for sure the menus said it had bacon. Ours didn’t have any bacon or the sauce that was supposed to come on it. Just bread, meat, and cheese. We were assured there was sauce, so my friend just asked for extra and we didn’t bother about the bacon cause at this point it didn’t matter. I never had truffle fries before, so I’m not sure if I didn’t like their or if I just don’t like truffle fries in general, but they just tasted like oil with weird black pepper on them…it’s probably just me.
Lastly we decided to get dessert. The cheese cake was ok, it was cheesecake. It was big enough for all of us to have a few bites. Our server said the apple cider donuts were her favorite so we tried that too. You get 2 doughnuts and a small scoop of ice cream for one person. The doughnuts were more sugar than dough, they practically crumbled when the first touched them and the parts that were near the ice cream were dissolving. The apple cinnamon topping was helping the doughnuts in their dissolution. It would’ve been better as a drizzle, but it was just poured on one side of the doughnut and was overwhelming.
Nothing I ate was worth the money. It was all just average. I think if I were to go back, it would be for the atmosphere and I’d just have a glass of wine and maybe...

It was beautiful. The food was just as great. I believe our table of 5 enjoyed the ribs, burger, ahi tuna, salmon, and many sides. We also ordered the cheescake & donut for dessert... so good! It took about 15 min before our server came over to welcome us & take our drink orders - but I do not believe it was her fault. Our reservations were at 7pm, and at 7:15pm I walked over to the host to ask who our server might be, and ended up talking to another server. He said they had noticed that no one had been to our table yet & the host was trying to figure out who's table it was. I said, no worries - we were just checking. Anyways, our server came over in another minute and she was awesome! Fast, friendly, knew the menu!!! So like I said, overall the experience was great. I just had a negative encounter with 2 staffmembers - once at arrival & again before leaving. When we first arrived, we walked in and saw the elevator & stairs. We decided to take the stairs (we are health consious and I also have anxiety with elevators - I was stuck in one before ). There were no signs saying that you "must' take the elevator, so up we went. When we got to the top, we walked through the door and immediately were met by a staffmember that said "how did you get up here?" We said, we used the stairs. His response "the stairs are for employees only." I was taken aback by his rather short/rude response and just said "well, there weren't any signs downstairs...and I don't use elevators because i have anxiety." He just kept saying "its for employees only" and not friendly at all. What a warm welcome. So we walked away to the host counter. After dinner, we all went towards the stairs to leave and were met by another staffmember. Again, "you can't use the stairs, they are for employees only." I said, "i'm sorry, I cannot use the elevator due to my anxiety." And he just completely ignored me and kept saying, "you can't use the stairs." I was beyond shocked at their lack of care & concern. How about providing great customer service and saying "I'm sorry to hear that & I understand - let me walk you down." One simple acknowledgement and taking a moment to provide excellent customer service, going above & beyond what is expected.... wow, those 2 missed their opportunity. Overall, wonderful restaurant,...
Read moreI recently visited Up on the Roof for the first time with a friend and overall we had a positive experience. You enter the building from a side entrance and then take an elevator up to the 5th floor where the doors open up to a small landing area that leads to the host stand and bar area just around the corner. Just beyond the open bar area is a nice patio/deck area with multiple seating areas overlooking downtown Alpharetta. The setting alone is worth the trip. The panoramic views from the terrace are absolutely breathtaking, especially at sunset and the ambiance is a nice balance between upscale and relaxed, making it a great spot for after-work drinks, dinner or a special occasion. We did not have to wait for the elevator since it was early in the evening when we arrived and the crowds were still small but as we left a few hours later it was getting busier and a small line began forming on the ground floor to go up as we were leaving. During our visit we had drinks, appetizers, and dinner and the service we received was excellent. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the drinks and other items on the menu. Mixed drink prices were a little pricey compared to other bars in the area but the food prices seemed to be more reasonable. Unfortunately, the food didn’t have the same wow factor as the view. The lettuce wraps we ordered were very salty, the brussel sprouts drenched in too much vinegrtette, and the crab cakes were very thin and flat and slightly mushy. I still enjoyed myself and the overall ambiance made up for the food and I will still likely come back in the future to give them another try and hopefully the food will be...
