Okay, I'm sure we're all thinking how many more Mexican restaurants can we have in Central Florida but I have to say the one I tried tonight was very, very good!
This is Fiesta Azul in Altamonte. It's not to be confused with all the other Fiesta or Azul restaurants out there. This is in the old outback on 434 near Jamestown.
A basket of warm chips came out with salsa. This salsa was mild but had a nice smoky flavor. I personally wish it had a little more kick.
We then went with an order of nachos. This has beans, chorizo and chicken. It was covered with toppings nicely throughout. You know how you get nachos and the top ones are good and the bottoms are just plain chips? That didn't happen. There was goodness on every bite. We asked for guacamole and sour cream on the side. Side note, the guacamole was really good. The word all around was that these are "so good".
Next up, several people ordered the Burrito Loco. This burrito had well seasoned meat, rice, beans, Pico, lettuce sour cream and guacamole. It is covered with queso dip and burrito sauce. You could up charge for grilled steak, grilled chicken, carnitas, shrimp or chorizo. Everyone decided that this was "excellent"!
I went with the enchiladas rancheras. This is slow simmered carnitas, with bell peppers and onions over cheese enchiladas. It was a plentiful amount of tasty meat. It was tender and flavorful. Even the rice on the plate was good and that's usually left on the plate at most places.
The service by Keylee was excellent! They have weekly happy hour and lunch specials.
They have six different Ceviche options. Next time, I'm going to go with a ceviche.
They have a few other items that I don't see on a lot of menus including tacos campechano (bacon, steak, chorizo on homemade blue corn tortillas), they do have traditional tacos that include lengua and al pastor. They also have Pina Loca (who doesn't like their food served in a hollowed out pineapple) and they have a seafood molcajate!
Anyway, we will be going back here and trying several other things. Oh, their chairs are actually super comfortable versus most places that cheap out on those hard metal...
Read moreWe dined in. We have eaten there several times, we have experienced great service, until recently. They don’t have any vegan/vegetarian options - however up until this last visit the servers have always offered great recommendations to accommodate. Sadly, our server was not the best on our last visit. He didn’t bring our waters until we asked again (no lemon as requested), he never brought the soda my Fiancee asked for - happy to see that wasn’t on the bill.
So $14 for two soft fajita veggie tacos, beans and rice. I asked for no cheese, cheese was on the tacos and the beans - ok, I will scrape them off and not make a comment or send back.
Ummm ok, $14 seems steep for that, BUT when I saw the bill, they added a $1 to each taco as an UP CHARGE for only veggie tacos, (And used “Steak” $1 up charge - you know why, because they don’t have a button/designation for veggies as an up charge - because that is straight up RIDICULOUS). I was not told how much the meal would be - pick 2 and that there would be an additional up charge, because I would have shared that had not been my experience before.
Then they tried to tell me that they gave me the same amount of veggies that I would have received in an order of veggie fajitas, I can tell you that is not the case. If there was a 1/3 of a cup of veggies for both tacos I would be shocked (mostly carrots/onions) 1 piece of broccoli and one piece of cauliflower and maybe 3 strips of bell pepper in total.
My Fiancee paid the same price for a steak burrito with you guessed it - grilled veggies, rice beans, shredded cheese, queso (the works) as big as a babies head and paid the same price - which by the way, he believes he got food poisoning, because he was up all night sick!
Recommendation: if you can’t create tacos, burritos that have rice beans and veggies, then add an a la carte menu, to allow people to build their own taco, burrito, etc with options that are veggie and...
Read moreIt blows my mind this place has a 4.7 rating. Thats the whole reason I decided to treat my employees (6 of us) after work on a Thursday evening around 6pm.
First problem, atmosphere: there were maybe 3 other tables sat but the music was loud to the point we all had a hard time hearing each other talk. Our server was being trained but not a big deal because the manager checked on us and handled some issues so that was fine. Side note: I had to use the men's room after I arrived and it was BAD in there. Like, I'd rather hold it for a hour or go on the side of the building level bad. The AC wasn't working in there so it was hot and humid and it was like they had a backed up toilet. The sewage smell was coming from somewhere but there wasn't anything wrong with the urinals or toilets that I could see. Not a good first impression.
The options from the bar seem good and tequila selection is OK but margaritas are not worth the price. The large margaritas are overloaded with ice and barely any liquor for the size of the glass and filled with overly sweet mixers. No one ordered a second. I switched to beer.
The poor margaritas could be forgiven if it weren't for the biggest problem, the prices. They are way overpriced. Same can be said for the food. While the food was on par with what you expect from tex-mex or mexican portion sizes and flavors everything we had was overpriced. And they added automatic 20% gratuity because there was 6 of us. That would be fine if we recieved 20% level service.
Someone needs to explain to the owners this is 434 in Altamonte, not near the Mall at Millenia or Windermere. I can see what they're trying to do here but it's just not working for us. We will not be back. Spent $380 for $100 worth of...
