I am sitting at Pho 84 as I write this review. I just finished having gyoza (steamed) and simmer pork spare ribs with house special sauce topped and black pepper. Not only was this a delicious meal; it is a pleasant dining experience.
The restaurant is located on 34th and Bell behind the Happy State Bank on the corner. It is an unassuming little place. Inside it is bright and spacious. I'm dining alone and was able to enjoy an audiobook with my meal. I would recommend this place if you want to be able to hear yourself and your companion(s) while having a meal worth having.
The presentation of the gyoza with the sauce (my appetizers) was a pleasant surprise, and I enjoyed them.
It's the entrée, however, that made me a fan. The simmer pork ribs are so flavorful. The meat is juicy and tender. I had a moment with this meal. (😅) The steamed rice, cucumbers, and carrots were light perfect additions.
I cannot wait for my next visit!
(This local gem was recommended by my friends. Good looking out homies! 😘)
01/20/2023 Update: I had a second visit and tried the peanut wings. They are flavorful and a nice size, but I will not order them again. (It's just a personal preference. I like crisper wings, and the peanut combination did not win me over.) The service and atmosphere...
Read moreEvery time ive been here, theres some sort of problem. This time they lost my order. It just mysteriously went missing. 25 minutes for an order of pho and spring rolls. Im confused for the most part on the timing with food, thats made days before. But since my order was lost they remade it within 8 mins. Pho take time and is a process that can take a day or so to make properly not something made to order. So the broth is already on hand. So basically your reheating the broth and adding the meat and veggies to order. Theres never 2 or more cars in the parking lot and it just doesn't add up. Once my boyfriend and i came to eat and tried to oreder a kids fried rice to go for our child and were told no. Im guessing because the kid wasn't present but really idk. The waitress told us because we had already ordered entrees that we couldn't order a kids meal, although it was to go and for my child. Strange. All in all the service is slow. The servers are usually polite and kind but something is always wrong. I will say if you do eat at Pho 84 to go in and sit down. Can you please an online order or a pickup order you're not getting your money swears the containers are full but when you sit in and dine you take home leftovers and a...
Read moreThe other reviews weren’t lying—service was poor. The waitress was the only person working the front, which probably explains her stress, but there was no greeting when we walked in, and we waited five minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was mostly empty. Meanwhile, others who came after us were seated right away, which felt disrespectful.
Food: We ordered the combo pho, gyoza, and spring rolls. The gyoza came drenched in a thick hoisin/soy sauce blend that completely overpowered the flavor of the dumplings. Why wasn’t the sauce served on the side? It made an already seasoned dish too salty and heavy. The spring rolls were decent, nothing special. As for the pho, it was noticeably small, with only about five pieces of meat—a pretty skimpy portion for a pho bowl. But the real issue wasn’t the size, it was the taste. The broth lacked depth and flavor. Even if the portion was small, I could have overlooked that if it tasted good—but it didn’t.
Overall, I can tolerate low service if the food is great, but in this case, both the service and food were underwhelming. If you’re passing through and looking for a meal, I’d recommend finding another place to eat. This one isn't...
