Do not stay at this hotel if you want a guaranteed room and hospitable staff. I was looking forward to staying here on our way back to Dallas from the Page, AZ after reading these same reviews; this was our stop for the night after 11 hours of driving.
We made a reservation online directly via the Atrea Inn website (I try to avoid 3rd party websites when I can) & booked over 24 hours in advance. Since we were arriving to check in around 10pm, I called earlier in the day and spoke with concierge J to confirm there would be someone at the desk at the time of check in. She took my last name, confirmed my first name, and said all was good to check in upon our arrival at 10pm.
When we arrived at that time, J could not find our reservation. I confirmed it was her whom I had spoken with earlier, and suggested that maybe we were checked in at that time. I gave my ID and booking confirmation number, showing her the direct email from Atrea Inn with the correct date, and was told “the system made a mistake” and that there were actually zero rooms available. She said this happens often.
I was flabbergasted, as I had the email confirmation from Atrea (which she said looked good, but “the system on her end wasn’t pulling it up”), confirmed earlier on the phone, arrived when planned, and was told “there is nothing I can do.” J made zero effort to try to help us sort the issue out; I asked where we could find a room this late the Friday of spring break she said “it is not my problem.” (I am not exaggerating this conversation was so unprofessional & rude - if management is reading this review, please contact me and I can send an audio recording of this conversation with J.)
There was no manager on site to help us, and J said she had zero power to do anything. She tried to call the general manager C but said she was “on the road” and “could not answer” and “wouldn’t be in until Monday.” Keep in mind, this is the weekend of Spring Break…poor Jennifer is left alone having to deal with our issue (with complete apathy and unprofessionalism, I might add, but I did feel bad for her) and said we could wait to see if C would answer, but she couldn’t guarantee anything.
Thus, we sat in the lobby for an hour, me tearing up and exhausted trying to find an alternative hotel at what was now 11:00pm, until manager C showed up. She said nothing other than “we found you a room,” handed me the key, and walked to the back of the office. No apology, no hospitality, no recognition of the fact we were slapped around and told to hit the road at 10pm with a perfectly accurate reservation. It was just…a horrible experience unlike any other. I was grateful we were eventually given a room, but it was not worth the stress. I asked if we could at minimum get a discount for the situation they put us in, and they agreed to give us $15 off. I still have not seen that charge returned on my account.
Do yourself a favor and avoid stress after a long day of road-tripping and book elsewhere.
update the owner did reach out to me and offered me a 50% off discount and an apology, which I greatly appreciated the follow up. Owner seems to have integrity, which says a...
Read moreAtrea Inn is a motel, not a hotel. It's in a good enough area of the city, and has cute places to take pictures, some murals, a cute lobby, and great prices. We stayed here for $71 for a room with 2 two-person beds, which was a bit higher price than some other places but we felt confident staying here because of the great reviews.
We were impressed by the lobby and staff. Our first negative interaction came when we hauled all of our stuff inside the lobby (they said they were a hotel), only to repack all of our things in the rain and drive to the rooms, which were around the corner.
Upon entering the room, it was decorated simply, but charmingly. It has a decently sized TV, a small fridge with nothing in it (not even water), and has all other basic amenities you'd expect.
Confusingly, there was a tissue stuffed into the keyhole. This kind of freaked us out. We hope it was placed there by a previous guest and the clean staff didn't see it, but it could also have been placed there to avoid spying, or worse.
The bathroom was very small. Not necessarily a problem on its own. The shower only had a cloth curtain though, I think generally they should have a plastic liner too, otherwise what's the point?
The worst part of the experience was the sleeping. The beds were hard as rocks, and the pillows were so tall it was hard to find a sleeping position, in addition to being painfully firm. The convenient location of the hotel means that 18-wheelers are consistently passing by, waking up residents. The paper thin walls meant we could hear our neighbors' laughter all night, as well as the lightning, which woke up our entire party of three, twice. It was genuinely the worst night of sleep I've had in many years. Even melatonin didn't help.
This isn't to say that the lightning or other guests are the fault of the motel, but these walls do nothing for noise, and this is a problem that would probably be alleviated, were Atrea to actually be a hotel, as they claim.
The free breakfast was there just to check a box. It consisted of bread, muffins, juice, apples, and a waffle machine hidden in the closet. The lobby isn't very big, and this motel has quite a few rooms, so I wonder how they do breakfast when they're very busy. Also, the bread was stale.
There were a couple more small issues. Our bathroom door didn't close all the way. The beds were SOOO small it would probably be considered a room that sleeps two (instead of four) at any decent hotel. I can't understate enough how hard and uncomfortable the sleep was. It took me two hours to fall asleep, only to be woken up several times.
Overall, it is a mediocre place at a decent price. I would expect at least a good price to justify staying at a mediocre place. I would not...
Read moreSeems to be a lack of communication between the front desk and maintenance/housekeeping. We came in at 4:30 am, confirmed we could leave at noon. Maintenance started knocking on our door in the most annoying fashion possible at about 9. Apparently they wanted to shampoo the carpet? Too bad :/ I'm sleeping. You cannot come in and vacuum. I called the front desk and she said she would tell them to leave us alone, but they were very insistent. So unprofessional. Could the carpet cleaning not have waited until the space between checkout and next checkin? Rude. Last time we were here housekeeping also thought it was ok to just walk in at 8am. Thank God for the deadbolt. We drove for 10 hours straight, we need to sleeeeep. Don't answer the door for nobody. Ugh.
The rooms are nice though. Comfortable beds. Good showers. Microwave, tiny fridge, TV. The clock on the microwave is an hour slow for some reason.
Edit: maintenance came back to be extra annoying and instistent, we told him clearly that we already talked to the front desk and we're not okay with the floor being cleaned while we're trying to sleep. He said 'they never told me about it' and then called the desk, holding our door open a crack the whole time. Desk told him to leave us alone. He said 'oh, ok.' and walked away. No apology for the misunderstanding. So I wanted to come back and say we don't like that guy. It is not my problem if your carpets aren't clean. It is EXTREMELY unprofessional to insist on a routine carpet cleaning while someone is in the room!!! Thanks to that guy I am no more well rested than I was at 9 am, and yet, I felt the need to hold my ground and cling to my right to stay in bed. I have PTSD also. Really don't like when people try to force my door open. That's gonna ruin my whole day. Knock on the door? Ok? And if I answer I might let you in. You cannot just force your wait in for routine maintenance and give me the urgency that you 'need to get this done'. Not my problem. My problem is lack of sleep. I paid money for sleep and you ruuinnedd iiiiittt. I wasn't warned about this, I was not prepared and it wasn't ok.
I'll probably still come back though! Out of necessity! And because it is cheap! Sometimes it's pretty outside at night, they have string lights in the courtyard. Nothing...
