If you buy a pie to go you should be satisfied except for the almost $30 per pie price tag. I like the idea of supporting small and local businesses but too much competition to be this pricey, poor eat- in service or lack of and below average eat in food. Hated the set-up of the cafe. Not clear if you sit down and get table service or order at the counter. FYI...it is the latter. Now for the seating, mismatched furniture and terrible lay out make for a downright unpleasant dining experience. My friend and I first sat at a counter height table for five due to the lack of seating for two. Stool was uncomfortable. To get a table and chairs, we waited until someone left the table that barely fit or two orders. My plastic chair was not comfy as I enviously looked at the large, white, oversized, soft seats next to me. Very loud space. Couldn't hear my friend and the very close seating didn't help. Food was delivered to our table. Minus the coffee I ordered. Oh and it was at that time they decided to remove the dishes from the previous customers. So coffee arrived. In house blend and pretty good. But first we needed cream' sugar, stirrers...you know...coffee basics. So you must look around the cafe for that (it is at the end of the counter in an effort to help you not wander around cluelessly like myself). Oh, BTW, look in the glass fridge behind you for milk, cream, etc. Am I in someone's house or what? Not verve sure how I found the dairy. So now for the food. Small quiche for Mr friend and " pot pie" for me. Both come with "mixed fruit". She got mostly honeydew and I got watermelon...so we shared. My pot pie is a small under baked shell with scrambled eggs and turkey bacon. A square of crust comes dipped into the egg mixture for the top crust? Pot pie reinvented? Doesn't work. The spinach quiche is unremarkable. The spinach is laid across the top if the ingredients and not mixed into the egg mixture. So what is going on here. Crust and quiche baked in advance. Ingredients then made to order but putting scrambled eggs in a single shell is not pot pie. Laying spinach across the top of a quiche isn't making the grade for a spinach quiche. Service, food and ambiance in need of...
Read moreTL;DR: Pie and Plate Café has phenomenal pies (sweet and savory) and is also known for their biscuits. Do yourself a favor and enjoy their culinary creations.
We found ourselves in the area for other entertainment purposes. Prior to leaving Ambler, we developed a hankering for pie. Upon entering Pie and Plate (for short), we were pleasantly greeted by the staff. It was our first time to the adorable little bakery restaurant, adorned with soft pastel blues, and delicate decorations. Soft edges and nothing too hard on the eyes. We purchased an entire set of pieces from the display to assemble an entire pie. Three key lime slices, three lemon ginger slices, and one cup of caramel hot chocolate (which was to die for). The pies were properly adorned in whipped cream and berries. The pies were absolutely delicious, but as most pie lovers will tell you, it is the crust that completes the entire ensemble. Pie and Plate delivers the goods with a flaky yet most crust that perfectly complements the sweetness of the pies. If you are a pie lover, please do yourself a favor and visit...
Read moreVery down to earth place. Ordering was easy and we sat ourselves. Very comfy chair options. All food is named after the streets in ambler. I got the north st, crossaint, egg, bacon, provolone, and some kind of sauce. It comes with fruit. And of course I had to get some pie. I got the Dutch cranberry apple. My friend got the key lime. Breakfast was nothing to scream about but it was hot. The bacon is turkey and if you're like me (pork is the best) you're skeptical about the taste. But it was good. The sauce is a little tangy. Fruit wasn't all ripe. And then there's the pie. Presentation is not everything. The Dutch cranberry apple was custardy and the bottom crust was the type that you don't cook all the way. A little strange and I didn't finish it. The key lime was way too tangy. I have pics of him trying to get past the tang but for his sake I won't share them. Overall, 9 bucks for the sandwich seems really pricey. The slice of pie is anywhere between 5 and 6. I can get a tastier option for 9 bucks at dunkin with a donut and coffee (who cares if it's...
