Our party of two strolled in for brunch after staying the night at the Majestic Inn to a mostly empty but posh space. Having visited a few years back, the fresh face lift in this space was well done. Open, bright, and updated gives swanky vibes without losing casual comfortability. Sports played on the TVs behind the bar. Various staff members were bustling around, presumably with room service orders, maintenance, and transitioning from morning shifts. Despite their busy-ness each acknowledged us with a friendly greeting and smiles.
We selected a low lounge table in the bar area and was promptly welcomed by our server. We asked for her recommendations on a couple of things and she candidly answered. We ordered Bloody Maria's, yogurt parfait, and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. We were torn between so many other options like the Seafood and Tasso Benedicts and the Cinnamonroll French Toast, it was hard to choose without our server's expertise. Her recommendations did not disappoint! Serving sizes were just right without overindulging and having enough to power a tourist's rounds through town.
We are already planning a return to visit the seasonal Rooftop for cocktails, fresh oysters and happy hour. We took a trip up to the outdoor rooftop area which is on the new building, and the views are unmatched! Seeing as far as the San Juan Islands, Fidalgo Bay, and the tops of Anacortes DEFINTELY worth the short walk over while the weather was...
Read moreNormally we don't eat at the hotel restaurants, but I saw the Bistro had scallops and wild mushroom risotto on the menu. We split truffle fries, mixed green salad and she had crab cakes while I had the scallops. Our waiter, Mark suggested he make it a three course meal and also suggested a pinot grigio as a pairing. These he served at a measured pace so we could savor the food and overall dining experience without feeling rushed.
Tasty truffle fries were served first with shaved parmesan. Next, balsamic vinegar dressing on the fresh garden salad was quite good. However, the crab cakes and scallops really showed off the skills of our chef, Eli. Scallops in particular often are disappointing at many seafood restaurants. Eli's preparation was perfect with light caramelization and firm but not overcooked texture. Wild mushroom risotto was a delight to the palette and an excellent accompaniment to the scallops.
Then we had a real surprise. Chef Eli has been experimenting with making his own ice cream. He treated us to a scoop of his strawberry margarita and an orange butterscotch. The strawberry margarita was impressive. However the orange butterscotch was a fabulous concoction providing an extraordinary burst of flavor leaving the desire to enjoy more.
Needless to say, we very much enjoyed our dining experience at the Bistro at the...
Read moreI recently visited the rooftop in Anacortes with a friend around 4 p.m. for a glass of rosé and a dessert. While the location and ambiance are undeniably beautiful, I was genuinely disappointed by the level of service we received.
We were served our rosé in plastic cups, which felt quite out of place given the venue’s upscale presentation and pricing. More notably, a server who was not attending our table approached and removed my glass while I was still drinking — without asking or saying a word. I kindly brought this to the attention of the server who had been assigned to us, but she showed little interest in the matter and made no effort to acknowledge or address the situation.
Experiences like this are unfortunate, particularly in such a lovely setting, where service should match the quality of the environment. I hope the management team takes this feedback constructively and considers further training to ensure guests feel both valued and respected. This space has great potential — and with a higher standard of hospitality, it could truly offer an...
