Fabric Plus — Local services in Anacortes

My teenage daughter, a young artist, went into the fabric store in hopes of finding some supplies for a costume, foam, quality faux fur, x-acto knife and a few other things that they did not have. There were a few ladies there and one of them asked her if she needed help finding anything, my daughter asked if they carried x-acto knives and she said no. So my daughter said thanks I’ll just look around. She looked at the fabric options and didn’t find what she was looking for, she did find a zipper that she was considering purchasing and carried it around while she shopped around. The same lady seemed to pop up around every corner asking if she needed more help. And my daughter kindly refused. But when she found that none of the other supplies were available she put back the zipper and headed for the door. As she walked out, the lady asked my daughter if she still had the zipper or if she put it back. My daughter feeling extremely uncomfortable and accused of stealing, said kindly, I put it back. I have really taught my daughter the importance of supporting small businesses and she tries her hardest to always check downtown Anacortes before purchasing something online. She has shopped at the fabric store before and to have someone following her around and then wondering if she stole anything is so unbelievably wrong. She never plans on returning to this place and neither do I. Our teenagers are the future and they deserve to be treated with respect and like the young humans they are. Not profiled and shunned. It’s definitely a shop catering to old ladies and not the younger crafters...

I do a buying trip to this shop twice a year and the staff in Anacortes WA is so helpful and they're so patient with us when we look around the store for complimentary fabrics to go with our projects. I enjoy the funky fabrics they carry, I make fun pillow cases with all this funky fabric and people love them and can't believe I made them. WIsh they'd get the Halloween girls and men in costume back but they only carry the men. Too bad as, they were a huge hit when given to couples as they knew exactly who they wanted for their personal pillow case!! fabrics plus is a gem set in the middle of town. quilters, tailors, sewers, hobbyist, kids, they have something you would like. A rainbow of every beautiful quilting fabric covers one entire wall, with shelves of fabric everywhere. thread? Yep , good quality. a clearance shelf, batting, silks, rayon, felt, embroidery thread, tools, patterns, fat quarters. It is like a candy shop in there. I never leave without ideas in my head and colorful fabric in my bag.
