What an absolute treat. The food and service here are top notch, so definitely make your way here ASAP before this hidden gem blows up! Making a reservation via open table is easy. We sat in the outdoor patio on a brisk night, but they had heating lamps so it was pretty pleasant. The menu is small, but keeps its integrity with purposeful dishes that are each winners.
Our server was Anne, who is an absolute rockstar. We had great conversations with her, she was super bubbly and friendly, and made the best recommendations and definitely knew the details for every single dish. Protect Anne at all costs!!
We ordered the Hamachi crudo starter (which on their website menu they mispell as "cuido"), braised short rib, and NY strip steak. Both entrées were really great, with my personal favorite being the braised short rib. It was so tender and melt in your mouth, perfectly complemented by delicious sides of polenta and Swiss chard. Previous photos of this dish had some kind of white foam with the presentation, so not sure if they got rid of something or forgot to add it? Steak was average, but still cooked well and came with chevre whipped potatoes, tiny carrots, and mushrooms. But the winner. Oh man the winner was that Hamachi dish. The flavors were so on point and fresh with layering levels of acid. The fish was thick cut, like real thick. I'm salivating just thinking about it. Please do yourself a favor and get it. We ended with a special off the autumn dessert menu, which was basically a brulee pumpkin bread pudding dish over pumpkin crumble and vanilla bourbon that you poured over. This dessert was also super delicious - you could really taste the bourbon and it was fun to crack the bruleed sugar on top.
Came back for lunch, was equally blown away by the dishes. Their truffle parm fries are chef's kiss. Caesar salad had a unique kick to it with orange zest. Poke bowl was super fresh and tasted great, although I wish the rice was seasoned a little more with vinegar. I was able to choose whether I wanted white or brown rice for this. The wagyu steak and frites was deliciously tender with the bone marrow butter slathered on top. I absolutely loved the salmon dish - there was so much going on in the plate that each bite was a delicious punch of flavor. It was expertly cooked with crispy skin and each salmon layer flaking off. I finally got the strawberry butter cake dessert which was SO GOOD. It had a ton of fresh strawberries that really highlighted the freshness of the dish itself. Our server was Bonnie this time, who was super friendly, also had great tips and was knowledgeable about the menu.
What I really like about Tangerine room is that they are committed to highlighting local, fresh, high quality ingredients that are in season. Therefore their menu is dynamic so the home run dishes might not be around for long! Again, so impressed with the awesome food and service here,...
Read moreThis place was amazing! We brought my Mom and Aunt who thoroughly enjoyed the night as well!
Biggest complaint: it’s hard to find. From Katella, you can see the Marriot, you can see a sign for Flemmings… but there isn’t a sign outside that say Tangerine Room. If you Google the directions, you will probably pass it by. The restaurant is IN the hotel. Hopefully they put a sign outside soon, I imagine that would draw more customers, just a tip! It’s nice hidden gem, but it shouldn’t be THAT hidden. The Tangerine Room sounds pretty cool as is, so throw a sign out there! Entice the people!
We seated promptly and our server, Andy, was a sweetheart! She did a great job selling us on some of the meals, and described the dishes to us to help us make up our minds. She was chatty, but in a pleasant way, making us all laugh and enjoy the experience.
Appetizers: Scallops… you only get 2, but they were cooked to perfection, and the mushrooms had a great earthy flavor! Do Stefano Burratta… if you are wanting to venture out and try something different, give the a try! You could make a meal of it if you’re vegetarian. The squash was very creamy, and the greens wear nice and crispy!
Dinners: Lamb Shank… it was huge! I will be making egg and lamb burritos for sure! It was good. I’ll try something else next time. Mary’s Chicken… my mom doesn’t go out of her comfort zone much, and she enjoyed this. It’s different enough to be excited, but not intimidating. Beef Short Rib… this was delicious! It falls apart easily and has just the right amount of juiciness!
Dessert: Cheesecake… the hint of citrus added a lightness to cheesecake. It wasn’t too thick either, just the right amount for two. Apple Tarte… this was pretty good! I don’t like Apple desserts, but I had a bite and don’t regret it! I couldn’t eat the whole thing, but I don’t have much of a sweet tooth.
The manager, Steve, was attentive as well. He told about the rooftop restaurant/ bar, Rise, and offered to bring us up! It felt like a secret invite, you need a special FOB on the elevator to get up there. He took care of us once we were up there, we felt special!
All in all, we loved it! It’s the next day and we are still beaming about it :) thanks Andy and Steve! Sorry for the novel, if you made it this far… it just goes to show how much we enjoyed...
Read moreSo my friend and I decided to have a birthday dinner with just the two of us and she chose The Tangerine Room. I've eaten at many "high end" restaurants and love food shows, so I was excited but after being seated and ordering our appetizers, I knew this was going to be a rough ride. We ordered butternut squash, but was told it was out of stock. So than we ordered scallops and the "lobster pot pie". The app only came with two scallops and the pot pie was anything but. I've included a photo of the supposed pot pie. It was basically a bowl of sour lobster bisque with a silver dollar size puff pastry circle. Even when the waiter brought the app out he distinctly said "lobster bisque?" and we said "no it was supposed to be pot pie." and he didn't say any more. So needless to say nothing was really sharable as an appetizer. Next was the main course. I was already disappointed, so just ordered the risotto and my friend got the NY steak and a side of mashed potatoes (because everything is priced separately). The risotto looked very nasty when it was served. It looked like mud. The risotto had so much mushroom that it turned brown. The rice was still crunchy and had some sort of wine or vinegar, so that every bite looked like vomit and smelled like it. My friends' steak was ok but small and she said it was " fine" but nothing special and same with her potatoes. As for service, we would have said something about the food but our waitress maybe came by the table 3 times and we even had to ask someone for the check. Lastly, it was both of our birthdays and we even made a note on the reservation and only the check-in desk took note. We weren't expecting a dessert (which we never even saw or were even offered that menu) but it would have been nice if our absent waitress would have acknowledged it. But seriously, why even have a place on the reservation asking if there's a special occasion? Definitely on my list of...
