We had a party of 8 and we were coming for dinner around 5-6ish we called the day previous to coming asking about reservation or call ahead but I was told their was no to little to no wait that time of day called back the day of an hour before was told no wait and that she wouldn't do call ahead because their was no wait. I called 1 last time before we we're on our way so they could push the tables together and was told still no wait get their and the restaurant is packed. Waited 55+ minutes it was for my girlfriends birthday and she had wanted to leave for 15 minutes before we we're sat because of the poor service we were getting not only by being told no wait when were 15-20 minutes down the road our plans were ruided that night by the delay of getting sat and our food taking a ridiculously long time to come out, which I don't mind we we're prepared for that hit not the hour wait. When we left an event we were suppose to be attending had already started and we still had to drive. The crab cakes were wonderful but honestly I've had crab cakes at Gordon's Food Service that we're identical. The calamari was great I would definitely order that again. sword fish was wonderful I had great food while it seemed me and 2 others enjoyed ever bit of the meal the other 5 of our party needless to say disagreed and said they wouldn't return. I'm leaving a 1 star for poor service not only with the wait but the lack of water the hour I was at the tableI had 2 glasses of water. while we waited an hour to be sat we asked for water and was told no that we would be sat shortly and we went another 20 minutes before being sat, we even sent someone to the bar to ask for water unsuccessful. All 8 of us had water once we we're sat some with lemon some without and I wouldn't think of it to be to much to fill up water or even offer it to people waiting. Overall I would return for the calamari and swordfish but I believe the swordfish was a special, I would be afraid to venture past that since it seemed as majority of my...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Pelican's Reef for lunch. Usually we love eating here but this experience ruined all the previous good experiences. We placed our appetizer order for lobster fritters and crab & cream cheese wontons. Five minutes later our server came and told us the fritters were unavailable. We were bummed but understood. We placed our entree order. After ten minutes of waiting our server came back and said that she is sorry but they are out of my wife's entree selection. This really made us upset, not that they are out of it, but because it was the second item and it took them ten minutes to figure out that they didn't have it. My wife ordered something else. When they finally brought our food out after an additional 30+ minutes they had forgotten my wife's side and her tartar sauce for her fish. I told them and they brought the side out and we had to ask again for the tartar sauce. After all this the owner came out and instead of apologizing she belittled us and talked down to us. She said, "it isn't our fault that we don't have a menu item. Its a pandemic and we can't get certain things." I told her that was fair and I wasn't upset about them being out of something. I was upset that it took them so long to tell me they were out and then they forgot half of the order my wife didn't want. The owner then said after throwing her arms up at us and as she walked away she yelled across the dining room "whatever, don't worry about it. We'll cover it." After the way she treated us we did not touch the food. She can keep her hate filled food. We not once raised our voices at her. I even agreed with how hard it is to receive items from suppliers during this pandemic. I just informed her that she needed to inform her staff better so they can educate their guests on what offerings they may or may not have so the guest isn't upset when they 86 an item. Long story short, we will never go back, not because of the food but because of the evil hate filled owner who likes to argue and...
Read moreThe atmosphere is lively and upbeat. The wait was 15 minutes for a table for 1, but it was rather busy on Friday, July 10... even so, a few tables opened up before I was seated. I was initially given the option of sitting at the bar to eat, but the only available seat was wedged back into the corner - no, thanks, I'll wait for a table.
The waitress was good-natured, attentive and patient. I first ordered a Sam Adams and a bowl of gumbo - it was not spectacular, but as good as most that I have had. Oyster and soda crackers were provided, and there were two kinds of hot sauce stationed at the table, along with ketchup for fries and the obligatory salt and pepper.
I then ordered a combination basket of fried clams and scallops (it had been quite some time since I'd had such fare) - it was delivered impressively quickly. The clams were generally good: large and tasty. The scallops were somewhat lacking - I wondered if I would have received only 6 of them had I just ordered the scallop basket, as there were only 3 among the generous quantity of clams (and the combination basket reflected a price between the two). One of the scallops was definitely "off," having a harsh, fishy taste - one bite was enough - though the other two had the expected delicate, almost sweet flavor. The accompanying fries were about average - they were seasoned, though the seasoning wasn't that flavorful.
Dessert was mentioned, and I decided that I still had a little bit of room for a slice of lemon marscapone cake. It was delicious - the layer of lemon marscapone atop the cake was thick and tasty, though I tend to like a little more "zing" in my lemon desserts.
I give this a 3.7 out of 5, rounded up. I will likely go again at some point, though I am not "chomping at the bit" to do so... and I'll order something other than...
