I would Not recommend this place for lunch! Went there because my nephew raved about his dinner experience (That's why I'm giving it 2 stars instead one 1. I'd give them 0 stars for lunch if I could). Unfortunately, the restaurant had entirely different menus for lunches and dinners, and we both hated our orders (he still generously have them 6/10 on their feedback card. But you know it's bad when the customer starts their feedback off by complementing the ginger ale that's not made by your restaurant). The lunch menu had six entrees to choose from and three of them were Vietnamese banh mi choices (yes, at a Korean restaurant). Well, I'm Vietnamese and those sandwiches were calling our names. I'm still wishing they had called someone else's name, because those were the worst banh mi sandwiches I've ever eaten. At $13 per 6 inch, you think Miss Kim would take the time to learn how to make a proper banh mi. I'm actually insulted she called it banh mi and hope customers don't think that's what authentic banh mi tastes like. I've gotten far better sandwiches for $3 from a drive thru in California. Instead of an airy, lightly toasted French baguette authentic to traditional banh mi, she used an Italian-style baguette that was not only overly toasted and scratched the roof of my mouth as I ate, but was too chewy for banh mi sandwiches. The only thing I'm thankful about is that the sandwich was only 6 inches (any bigger and I would have had to see a doctor about TMJ. Seriously. My nephew said his jaw was sore from his sandwich.). The flavor of the sandwiches itself was salty and didn't resemble Vietnamese flavorings (we had the pork). While I understand the concept of fusion, that excuse would not even come close to validating the flavors in our sandwiches and definitely doesn't excuse the salt. Still not sure why everything was so salty - even the pickled carrots in the sandwiches AND the potato salad side dishes the employees raved about were overly salted. So salty in fact that neither of us finished our patio salads. My nephew also ordered one of the Korean-style bowls to go. Not having tasted it myself, all I can say is that, for $14 per bowl, you'd think Miss Kim would give a bigger portion. It was tiny (like snack size!). Overall, I would not recommend eating at Miss Kim's for lunch. Even if they changed up their menu, the portions they give are not worth the price...
Read moreA large group (12?) of us met here to celebrate a birthday on Saturday night, and had a really enjoyable experience. I had never heard of it before going, but I'll be sure to go back soon. This is a no tip restaurant. Their menu is separated into small plates, medium plates, and large plates. The group ordered (and I personally tried) Avocado Edamame Dip, Pork Belly Bossam, Koryo Carrot Salad, Bacon Kimchi Collards, Nick Kim's Wings, Fried Calamari, Tteokbokki (Street Kid Style and Royal Prince Style), Fried Winter Squash, Korean Fried Chicken, and the Stone Bowl Bibimbob. Everything I ate was AMAZING and beyond tasty. Thank god I suddenly developed a never ending stomach, because there were so many delicious things to eat and I couldn't pass anything up. My absolute favorites would have been the calamari, street kid style Tteokbokki, fried squash, and Bibimbob. Others in my party also ordered the Fresh Oysters, Little Gem Salad, Brussels Sprouts, Whole Lamb Shank, and Soy Butter Scallops, and while I didn't try it, they loved it. We ordered some sake, wine, and beer that were all very good, though I unfortunately don't know which ones they were. Our service was very good. They were packed when we arrived, so we had to wait just a little bit before they seated us, despite having a reservation. Our server was very nice and friendly, and managed our table very professionally. There were several other parties around us also celebrating birthdays, and our server was kind enough to cut and serve our cake for us. I wish I had gotten his name, because he was awesome. Overall, we all had a fantastic time, and I'm sure we'll be spending many more...
Read moreMiss Kim is a culinary treasure and arguably Ann Arbor’s best restaurant.
I took my wife and mother- and brother-in-law out for her birthday dinner here. We shared several plates together and thoroughly enjoyed every single one. The mushroom noodle dish was so flavorful and tasty. The fried tofu was absolutely delicious. It was flavored well. While it was temptingly crispy on the outside, it was also silky, soft, and juicy on the inside offering a wonderful contrast. Finally, I would be remiss without mentioning the smashed potatoes. This spicy dish really elevates the potato game to a new level. My advice is order several things to share amongst the table and have some of each dish. That’s the way to go, to sample all the wonderful dishes.
As vegans, we appreciate that there are many vegan options that are nutritionally balanced and just as high of quality as other meat-based entrees. I think this speaks to Chef Kim’s talent and also I believe Korean food’s apparent roots in heavily plant-based ingredients. Thank you for offering these awesome options!
It’s hard to fathom that this restaurant almost closed during COVID. What a tragedy that would’ve been, but fortunately this gem is still here and now thriving, according to a recent Observer article.
I would highly recommend Miss Kim for a wonderfully delicious and diverse meal. Their restaurant is a shining bright light in Ann Arbor’s dining scene, and we hope to come back many times for...
